» The search for the next wave of talent in the Thai fashion industry has begun with the "Young Designer 2025" competition. Hosted by the Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, the contest honours "Thai Fabrics Are Fun To Wear", a royal initiative by HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.
Two new boats on the Chao Phraya later this month

» The Chao Phraya Express Boat, operator of passenger boats between Pak Kred in Nonthaburi and Wat Rajsingkorn in Bangkok (near Asiatique), has recently unveiled two new boats, which are said to be pilot models that will replace its entire fleet of more than 60 vessels in its ongoing plan to revamp boats.

» Bandai Spirits and Bandai Namco Asia will host 'Gundam Docks At Thailand' at CentralWorld's outdoor square from Oct 6-29. Since the inaugural 2013 edition of 'Gundam Docks' in Hong Kong, the giant robots have travelled to Singapore, Taiwan, Japan and China.

Questions for Future Miss Universe Thailand

» It seems every Thai was talking about Miss Universe 2019 earlier this week (and I'm sure we'll be hearing about it for another week). Even though our Fahsai didn't win the title, she reached the top five and made us proud. What got people talking so much, besides how gorgeous she looked, was how she answered the question, which many think was picked for Thailand. MC Steve Harvey asked her, "Government surveillance is used to keep many nations and their people safe. But some believe this invades our right to privacy. What is more important to you, privacy or security?" Fahsai gave a PC answer, saying the government should find a way to keep people safe without invading people's privacy. A very safe answer but how would you come up with an answer to a complicated question in 30 seconds? A few people said her safe answer was because she wanted to return to Thailand.

Change the world, one photo at a time

» Theerachat "Tom" Potisit is a freelance photographer who's behind many iconic images that went viral in recent years. On top of countless fashion shoots, you may have already seen his work, which stimulates conversation on relevant social issues without knowing the man. In 2014, he saw an opportunity to raise awareness on marine life conservation when a Bryde's whale beached in Samut Prakarn and staged a fashion shoot there. Remember the "Anatomy 101" exhibition at Chulalongkorn Hospital in 2015? It was a photo exhibition where Tom and Surachai "Pui" Saengsuwan, a noted fashion photographer, took beautiful, haunting pictures of models and celebs in a hospital setting to raise awareness on organ donation. Most recently, he organised "Know-R", a photography exhibition to highlight livelihood of communities along the Chao Phraya River. It was staged on an old rice barge in February. Tom has also earned a reputation as a photographer/conservationist for his contribution to raising awareness on endangered species over the years. Guru spoke with this fascinating photographer whose works combine art, fashion and raising awareness.
