Thai-Style Xmas

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 24/12/2021

» Despite the fact that a majority of the Thai population claim to be Buddhists, they go all out to celebrate Jesus Christ's birthday every year. Even though they may not be aware that it's his birthday and Xmas isn't even an official holiday despite all the lights and Christmas trees that pop up across the country. I've gone down Bangkok Post's archive (Xmas pun intended) to present a few quirky and local twists on the worldwide holiday. While they may not be unique to Thailand, they are definitely memorable. Stories that got blown out of proportion, thanks to social media

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 27/07/2018

» While I appreciate social media for being a multi-faceted tool for keeping up with friends (and frenemies), indulging in endless cat videos, stalking beautiful strangers and showing off what I ate or where I stayed (I'm only human), it's also an amplifier for some stories that probably don't need the attention of the entire country. Not sure what I'm getting at? Here are a few stories that, IMHO, are of little value, but, thanks to social media, we are drawn to care about.

Food in mini forest

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 08/06/2018

» Contrary to its name, GISMO isn't techie, futuristic or gimmicky in any way. Instead, it's a low-key dining spot with a relaxed and welcoming ambience. You'll be sitting in a rustic warehouselike space with high ceiling and exposed beams. The floor-to-ceiling windows with thin frames amply allow in natural light to brighten up the place while pops of flora and leaves add life and softness to the space. Most of the plants are artificial but have a soothing effect on you nonetheless, making the space a little forest in the city. There weren't much to distract you from what's on the plate as the only background music is the fountain's trickling.
