Emojis for 2021

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 05/03/2021

» If Clubhouse isn't enough to make Samsung fanboys considering abandoning Android for iOS, a new set of emojis may. It has been recently reported that iPhone users can look forwards to 217 new emojis that they can use to expand their emojinication (emoji + communication) with. These new ideogrammatic icons include a revamped version of the syringe icon to be bloodless to go with 2021 as the year of Covid-19 vaccination, obvi. The normal black headphone icon will turn white and look like Apple AirPods Max. Three new smileys. Two new hearts. A bunch of bearded men/women in different skin tones (Because why not?). And multiple pairs of couples with a mix of skin tones for interracial lovebirds.

Before we go to the moon...

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/12/2020

» On Monday, Anek Laothamatas, the minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, revealed that, by the middle of next month, a plan to send a spacecraft into the moon's orbit in seven years from now will be announced. According to him, Thailand will be the fifth Asian country to achieve this extraterrestrial feat, following China, Japan, South Korea and India. Khun Anek added that taxpayers' money will be used to yield tangible results rather than just more research and teaching, at the launch of a project to crowdfund locally-made vaccines against Covid-19 led by Chulalongkorn University.

» Pardon me, dear readers, for the headline betrays my inadequacy in wordsmithery. You see, I put as much effort into coming up with it as the following esteemed people perhaps with their "ideas". It seems you can always count on the government for questionable plans but these three recent examples take the cake. Read on for your entertainment (which may be tinged with hopelessness).

Thai Proverbs: 2019 Edition

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 01/02/2019

» New words and verbal expressions are born every day yet our classic proverbs remain unchanged with references that are dated or we can no longer relate to. I’ll say it’s time to give classic proverbs a makeover with contemporary references. Some meanings are changed, by the way. Shall we give this a try?

Into the fog with memes

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/01/2019

» I'm sure you're painfully aware of the smog that blankets Bangkok and its adjoining provinces (through your nose, eyes and throats), and have already learned from the experts on how to protect yourself from the harmful effects of PM2.5 particulate matter that has shrouded our city. There's no point in shedding anymore light on these topics, so here I offer another kind of relief -- humour through a few smog-inspired memes to get you through these foggy days. Take a deep breath (while wearing an N95 mask) people, this too shall pass.
