» The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation, under the royal patronage of HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya and in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Promotion and Ministry of Culture, recently presented a concert at the Thailand Cultural Centre (TCC) in celebration of the anniversary of His Majesty the King's Coronation Day. For this extremely special occasion, serving as a moment of national reflection and gratitude towards the monarchy, the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (RBSO) curated a selection of significant and captivating works by composers from Thailand, France and England.

» The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra had celebrated the birthday of HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya two days earlier, but on Jan 9 the musical festivities and tributes to the orchestra's beloved patron continued at the Thailand Cultural Centre, with yet another concert of fine Romantic period Russian masterpieces performed in the presence of the musical Princess.

Also in attendance for this diplomatically significant occasion was Evgeny Tomikhin, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand.

» In honour of birthday celebrations of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, and in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Ministry of Culture and B.Grimm, the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (RBSO) delivered another high-spirited performance at the Thailand Cultural Centre recently. Directed by Resident Conductor Vanich Potavanich, the first item on the programme could hardly have been any more suitable as a tribute to the universal majesty of royalty.

Masterpieces of the Magyar

» Supported by B.Grimm, the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (RBSO) gave a dedicated concert late last month at the Thailand Cultural Centre to mark the 155th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Thailand, Austria and Hungary. Many ambassadors were in attendance for this important historical event in the social calendar, including HE Dr Sándor Sipos of the Embassy of Hungary. The emphasis was, in fact, wholly on the music of the Magyar people, featuring top-drawer Hungarian violinist Vilmos Oláh and compatriot conductor Andrea Daru from Budapest. That culture certainly boasts earthy music of the most profound emotional depth, and indeed, the programming for this concert was an absolute delight for the aural senses, opening with the glorious Les Préludes by Franz Liszt.
A harmonious blend

» A highly energised Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra rounded off a hugely successful 2023 concert season mid-December with a cleverly conceived and designed programme titled "Orient Et Occident", with each performance alternating between compositions by Western and Eastern composers. By now, frequent visiting English conductor Douglas Bostock certainly knows how to inspire this orchestra to the very best of its abilities, and the opening La Princesse Jaune Overture by Camille Saint-Saëns was duly performed with a delightfully assured élan. The utterly charming faux-exoticism which the composer conjures was played with innocent, abundant joy, whilst a central lush string section showed off those particular ranks in an extremely positive light.
Rising star Bomsori Kim wows RBSO audience

Having already achieved superstar status in her home country, South Korean born Bomsori Kim is without a doubt destined to become one of these, bursting onto the scene and announcing her stall in 2017 with her debut Warner Classics recording of Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No.2 and Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No.1.
