» A one-hour drive from downtown Sukhothai to Si Satchanalai district, the Suntree Thai Weaving Center is a place where a group of local skilful weavers gather to work on old wood looms that are all set up in the middle of the green courtyard.
Ancient wonders

» A car travels down a long peaceful road with lush green paddy fields on each side that will soon be superseded by crops of cassava, corn and sugar cane during the off-season. This scene reminds us of Prince Damrong Rajanubhab's 1904 journey to Phetchabun, when he discovered the ancient town of Si Thep which was recorded in a late Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin document.
A town full of history

» It felt as if my eyes and skin were on fire while walking down the new 150m-long skywalk in the sweltering midday sun. It was due to my late arrival in Kanchanaburi, but I decided to stick to my original plan. At least I was rewarded with stunning views of the confluence of the Khwae Yai, Khwae Noi and Mae Klong rivers, set against a backdrop of lush hilly environment and old city walls.

Both old cities are home to a unique collection of magnificent classic Sino-Portuguese buildings that harmoniously fuse Eastern and Western architectural styles.

» Following a massive five-year makeover, the modern red-ochre compound of Ban Kao National Museum rises in the middle of vast green landscapes and rice fields on the banks of the Khwae Noi River, serving as a prologue for a day trip to explore Prasat Muang Sing Historical Park, which is about 10km away.

» After departing the Skytrain at BTS Saphan Taksin station in the early morning and turning right, I went on a walking tour with my travel companions to explore the final leg of Charoen Krung Road and Thanon Tok, which runs through the lively residential neighbourhoods of Yannawa and Bang Kho Laem.
