» Though the rainy season has officially started in some parts of the country, it appeared we were in luck when rain clouds drifted off Phuket. The Sun was shining and the sky was clear when we arrived at Visit Panwa Pier, where a fleet of speedboats and catamarans were cruising the water to pick up passengers.

» After a two-hour ferry ride from Koh Samui, we landed on Koh Tao, where a tremendous influx of foreign and Thai tourists was arriving at Mae Haad Pier in the late afternoon. A crew of hotel guides were shouting their customers' names from a nearby pavilion, while a fleet of four-wheel-drive pickup trucks were stationed outside to transport visitors to their lodgings.

» The best time to get vitamin D is in the early morning when the Sun reflects on the clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand. I reclined by the ocean without a mask to inhale the fresh air on a private sand sundeck close to Holiday Inn Resort Samui Bophut Beach.

» As the plane continued its flight to the southern town of Trang, my travel companions and I learned that there was a 70% probability of rain during our trip, so we didn't anticipate spending time on the beach tanning. But as we landed and all we could see was a brilliant blue sky gleaming over the Andaman Sea, it seemed like we had struck lucky.
