» Food-in-a-cup is a category that's a hit-or-miss. There are staples and things we wouldn't bat our eyelids at, like ice cream or french fries, and then there's the more risky ones like A&W's waffles in a cup which is quirky but still works in its own way. It's safe to say sushi wasn't one of the things people were demanding to be in a cup. But Chubbies decided: demands and norms, be damned! They're going to do it anyway.

» T he sun has started to bear down a little more heavily these days. Brief walks to the 7-Eleven are starting to result in sweaty shirts. The cool, billowing breeze from an AC turned down to 10C degrees is starting to feel a little more pleasant than before. Brace yourselves: the onset of summer is here. What better way to alleviate the summer heat than perhaps a cool, refreshing dessert? Okay, ice cream is great no matter what season (I'd eat it even if it was winter. Then again, Bangkok doesn't really have "winter"). But you know what's better than delectable ice cream during the ridiculously hot Bangkok summer? Delectable ice cream that's delivered right to your doorstep during the ridiculously hot Bangkok summer! » A lot has happened in 2020. From the pandemic to protests, the year has had a flurry of events, good and bad (perhaps mostly bad). Paradoxically, it seems that 2020 lasted longer than it should and we all can't wait for it to be over, but at the same time it also seemed like we just went into quarantine yesterday. We're all looking forward to the year that's ahead and leave 2020 behind, but before we do, let's take a look at the year that's been and determine which blunders, skills and mascots are worthy of recognition.

» Bangkok is rapidly becoming a city with innovations that make life much easier. Yes, we at Guru have complained a lot about the city's many negative aspects but we also can't deny that the city has improved. Is there room for improvement? Oh, definitely. But there are many things that we use right now that we simply cannot imagine life without. What would life be without the services of GrabFood to deliver meals to your door or Shopee and Lazada to do your shopping from the comfort of your home? How about the Lock Box storage facilities we see in many BTS and MRT stations that help tourists roam without having to drag their luggage with them? Can we forget about the lifesaving GrabTaxi and GrabBike services? There are more services on the rise that you may not know about and that's what we're here to spotlight this week.

» It eludes me why many think sandwiches can't be a meal. Perhaps it's because the sandwiches we know are the ones bought at a convenience store, which have been refrigerated, then squished under a toaster for a maximum of three minutes and voila, you've got yourself a "sandwich" with barely anything in between. Notice the quotation marks? These "sandwiches" are a sorry excuse of a "sandwich". Fortunately, Bangkok is home to a number of places that does sandwiches properly -- sandwiches that will not just have you filled and satisfied but also have you coming back for more. If you want to get away from the usual rice and noodles, it may be time to jump on the bread wagon. Here are a few of the best sandwich places around the city.

» In the day and age of convenience and apps, it's so easy to get everything with just a simple click, so much so that perhaps the only thing we complain about now is the fact that we have to walk outside to meet the delivery guy. Not that we need anymore reason to stay inside (as if an introvert like me is trying to find reasons to go out and socialise), Lick BKK could probably be another incentive to simply lock yourself in a room as you chow down on their signature offering -- burgers. And who doesn't love being antisocial while scarfing down a good burger anyway?

» Living in Bangkok has its share of ups and downs. Then again, what city doesn't? We know we complain about living in the city in every issue we publish (we have plenty more) but that doesn't mean there are people who share the same grievances, but unlike us who just whine, have decided to do something about it. Sure, there are plenty of things to be improved upon or done away within Bangkok and we're pretty sure we all can write a long list. But we're sincerely glad to see that there are services like these that make not just living in Bangkok a little easier, but also living a greener, more-eco friendly life in the city more viable. And who's going to refuse a greener and easier lifestyle? Here are a few services to try out.
