» Though patients from the Middle East are shrinking as a result of war, analysts are upbeat about prospects for Thai hospitals this year as the country has emerged as a medical and wellness hub and is transitioning into a "super-aged" society.

Vaccine confusion must end

Asia focus, Nareerat Wiriyapong, Published on 10/05/2021

» As a new wave of the global pandemic creates growing urgency in many parts of the world, Covid-19 vaccines have been in short supply. Only a handful of rich economies, among them the US and European countries, along with China, have secured sufficient supplies for their domestic vaccination programmes.

New hope in a post-Trump world

Asia focus, Nareerat Wiriyapong, Published on 16/11/2020

» Following Thai politics is making me increasingly frustrated, and I'm losing hope that things will ever get back to normal. The Valentine's Day incident came just days after a soldier killed 29 victims in the country's worst-ever mass shooting.

Asia focus, Nareerat Wiriyapong, Published on 26/08/2019

» Last week we saw some interesting developments in the gambling industries of two Southeast Asian nations that have become increasingly allied with China. While I am personally opposed to gambling and casinos, I respect the right of a country to allow them if it feels they will help the economy. But it's an industry that must be managed well in order to avoid negative effects.

Medical costs need creative rethink

Asia focus, Nareerat Wiriyapong, Published on 21/01/2019

» The persistent thick haze that has blanketed Bangkok in recent weeks has led to growing disenchantment with the government and calls for meaningful action. I find it hard to believe that authorities appear to have put so little effort into planning for such outbreaks of pollution and properly warning citizens.

Hearing women's voices

Asia focus, Nareerat Wiriyapong, Published on 19/03/2018

» As a woman, I am happy to hear that Gina Haspel has been nominated by US President Donald Trump as the new director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Currently the CIA deputy chief, she has been tipped to succeed Mike Pompeo, who is to replace the ousted secretary of state Rex Tillerson. If confirmed by the Senate, Ms Haspel would become the first woman to lead the country's spy agency.
