OPINION

What the world needs now is…

Roger Crutchley, Published on 15/02/2026

» With yesterday being Valentine's Day it seems appropriate for PostScript to have a brief word on matters of the heart. I admit to not being a huge fan of Valentine's Day but in these crazy times anything that promotes love over hate seems worthy of a mention. Although it is one of the most blatantly commercialised celebrations on the calendar it serves as a welcome break from the daily diet of depressing news we have been subjected to lately.

OPINION

A word that has me at sixes and sevens

Roger Crutchley, Published on 09/11/2025

» I try to keep up with the ever-evolving English language but after seeing the buzzwords provided by Dictionary.com this week I fear I am being left way behind.

OPINION

Windsor Castle back in the limelight

Roger Crutchley, Published on 21/09/2025

» Windsor Castle has been in the news this week for reasons that require no explanation. Suffice to say the Brits are still quite good at putting on a show with plenty of horses, hats and bagpipes.

OPINION

A curious place to find 'Lady Liberty'

Roger Crutchley, Published on 09/07/2023

» A headline which caught my eye in last Sunday's Post was "Highway 12 to economic heaven" with a report concerning the rich potential of this route which stretches west to east from Tak on the Myanmar border to Mukdahan, just this side of the Mekong River from Laos.

OPINION

The big black door which has no keys

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 30/10/2022

» In recent weeks whenever I have switched on the TV news bulletins I seem to have been greeted by the sight of the imposing black door at No 10 Downing Street. It must be the most photographed door in history.

OPINION

Well, it's only a slogan after all

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 24/05/2020

» The Tourism Authority of Thailand has decreed that the "Amazing Thailand" slogan will need rebranding once the coronavirus situation is sorted out. So from October, we will be treated to "Amazing Trusted Thailand", emphasising safety and aimed at "high-end" tourists. Well-intentioned as it may be, this new slogan doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and the middle word may prompt a few wry smiles.

OPINION

Once upon a time it was smooth as silk

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 27/10/2019

» Judging from what a leading executive of Thai Airways International (THAI) said last week, the national airline is in a spot of bother and needs to turn things around quickly. Quite what the solution might be is unclear, although one suspects a "miracle" would come in quite handy. It is common knowledge that things have not been "smooth as silk" for many years.

OPINION

Thailand will always remain amazing

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 30/06/2019

» I must admit to thinking that the "Amazing Thailand" slogan was a bit over the top when it was first introduced by the tourism authorities about two decades ago. But over the years I have grown quite fond of it in a funny sort of way, probably because it is more or less accurate.

OPINION

Today's news may be faker than usual

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 01/04/2018

» We have had to put up with a lot of fake news in recent times, and if you think you have read more than your fair share of strange stories today, it might be an idea to look at the date.
