Sharing good times and hard times

Roger Crutchley, Published on 06/08/2023

» Earlier this week the Bangkok Post marked its 77th anniversary which is quite an achievement really considering what the country has experienced since the newspaper was established in 1946. Any paper that has displayed such longevity, surviving countless coups and assorted other upheavals deserves a nod of acknowledgement.

A big farewell to a fine Thai journalist

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 09/10/2022

» It was sad to learn of the passing of former Bangkok Post colleague Anussorn Thavisin earlier this week at the age of 79. I had known Anussorn for 50 years and apart from him being a really nice chap with a lovely sense of humour, he was also an accomplished journalist widely admired by everyone in the profession.

Fifty fascinating years in Wonderland

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 14/04/2019

This year is slightly more significant because earlier this week marked my 50th year in Thailand, or to put it another way, roughly 18,250 days. That sounds decidedly scary. The frightening thing is that I can remember those early days better than the events of last week. The immature youth is now an immature wrinkly.

Established in 1946 … that's some time ago

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 29/07/2018

» It was with slightly mixed feelings that I read the Bangkok Post will celebrate its 72nd anniversary on Wednesday - Aug 1. Any newspaper that has lasted that long and in the process survived approximately 15 coups or attempted coups and assorted other upheavals, deserves a pat on the back.
