Warm and witty whodunnit

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 12/09/2025

» Fans of whodunnit murder mystery will be delighted to hear that Netflix has finally given us an adaptation of Richard Osman's best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club, reimagined in the form of a movie. This adaptation is a fun, cosy and poignant little puzzle -- an engaging mix of heart, sorrow, humour and late-life epiphanies.

When the past returns

» I usually have a soft spot for Scandinavian thrillers. Oftentimes, they're so unique and interesting that Hollywood ends up remaking them -- like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009) or The Hunt (2012). There's a kind of slow-burning tension and cold realism to them that you don't always get in American shows. However, while that's usually the case, I have to say that The Glass Dome, the new six-episode Netflix series, doesn't quite measure up -- even though it has potential.

A light and easy murder mystery

» A grand mansion on a remote island. A wealthy family gathered for a joyous occasion. But the celebration comes to a screeching halt when a sudden murder occurs, and an outside detective is called in to solve the case. Sound familiar? Netflix's latest miniseries The Perfect Couple seems like an attempt to create their very own The White Lotus. But does it succeed in delivering the same intrigue and sharp satire?

LIFE

Legal drama, thrillingly retold

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 21/06/2024

» Remember the 90s thriller film Presumed Innocent starring Harrison Ford as a lawyer investigating the murder of a colleague? Now, the classic story based on a novel by Scott Turow is getting a television version. The first two episodes have already dropped on Apple TV+, with new episodes releasing weekly until the finale on July 24. This adaptation of Turow's novel is filled with dynamic and dramatic moments, but can it accurately capture the mystery that drives the story?

» Only a few months after making waves globally in Hunger, a hit drama on Netflix that highlights class divide, Chutimon "Aokbab" Chuengcharoensukying returns in Delete, a story about a mystery mobile phone whose camera is able to delete anyone from existence. The eight-part miniseries is currently on the top 10 most-watched shows in Thailand.

A spoof gone too far

» Don't get confused if you start watching the American comedy-thriller miniseries The Woman In The House Across The Street From The Girl In The Window and feel like you have seen it before. For whatever reason, The Woman In The House is a revamped version of the plot of another Netflix original titled The Woman In The Window, which came out last year and featured Amy Adams.

The Lovebirds glides along

» I discovered both director Michael Showalter and actor Kumail Nanjiani for the first time back in 2017 at the press screening for a romcom I then knew very little about called The Big Sick. And with its indie-ish charm, Nanjiani's witty performances, clever jokes about romance and cultural identity, The Big Sick turned out to be one of the movies I most remember from that same year. So I was really excited to hear they teamed up once again in the new comedy The Lovebirds, which is now streaming on Netflix. And although the new film is an entirely different beast and may not be as good as its predecessor, The Lovebirds still manages to deliver a semi-good laugh, and a heartwarming love story.

LIFE

Absurdity made wonderful

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 22/05/2020

» During these uncertain and unprecedented times when we are fed up with mundane streaming movies as we're stuck at home, it's amazing that once in a while, we come across some solid movies on television. And the latest HBO original drama-comedy Bad Education, starring Oscar-nominated actor Hugh Jackman, is definitely one of those rare occasions.

LIFE

Ms Right's all wrong, like the movie

» Tim, a lonely middle-aged guy, had a nightmarish blind date a few months ago, but later while travelling he stumbles upon the woman of his dreams at the airport, who happens to also have the name Missy. They're like a perfect match and their relationship quickly escalates through text messages. Tim wants to take this hot girl as his date to his corporate retreat on an island resort in Hawaii over the weekend, where he has to impress his boss for promotion, so he texts to invite her to come along and luckily she replies yes.

LIFE

Comedic fun with whodunnit

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 13/12/2019

» Old-fashioned whodunnit or detective murder-mystery stories are very successful as novels and television series, but we don't get to see as many of them on film nowadays, let alone a decent one. We may have had the remake of Murder On The Orient Express two years ago, although the movie was kind of a flop, or there's the Sherlock Holmes movie franchise with Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. But even those are based on already very popular characters in literature.
