LIFE

Something old, slightly new

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 27/03/2026

» It's common to see that when a film achieves great success with its first instalment, Hollywood quickly pushes for a sequel to capitalise on fan demand and the promise of massive box office returns -- even when the original story has little left to explore.

LIFE

Unravelling family secrets

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 06/06/2025

» The Better Sister is the kind of show that proves that even with a stellar cast, a gripping premise and polished production, there's no guarantee it will deliver a consistently entertaining experience. That isn't to say the latest Prime Video mystery thriller is a bad series -- far from it -- but it struggles to stand out in a genre already saturated with stronger contenders. We've probably seen a dozen shows that handled similar material with more finesse and momentum.

A musical misfire

» Despite the controversies surrounding Joker (2019) upon release, I found many things to admire about the film. Whether it was the ambitious storytelling, the refreshing take on an iconic DC character, or the homage it paid to Martin Scorsese's classics like Taxi Driver (1976) and The King Of Comedy (1982), there was a lot to appreciate. However, when I heard they were making a sequel to what was supposed to be a standalone film, I had a bad feeling. Now that I've seen Joker: Folie À Deux, I can't say my opinion has changed.

LIFE

A light and easy murder mystery

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 13/09/2024

» A grand mansion on a remote island. A wealthy family gathered for a joyous occasion. But the celebration comes to a screeching halt when a sudden murder occurs, and an outside detective is called in to solve the case. Sound familiar? Netflix's latest miniseries The Perfect Couple seems like an attempt to create their very own The White Lotus. But does it succeed in delivering the same intrigue and sharp satire?

» Remember the 90s thriller film Presumed Innocent starring Harrison Ford as a lawyer investigating the murder of a colleague? Now, the classic story based on a novel by Scott Turow is getting a television version. The first two episodes have already dropped on Apple TV+, with new episodes releasing weekly until the finale on July 24. This adaptation of Turow's novel is filled with dynamic and dramatic moments, but can it accurately capture the mystery that drives the story?

LIFE

Slow-burning, Swedish style

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 01/12/2023

» Stories emerging from the enigmatic Scandinavian landscape have often spoken somewhat to my interests. Swedish contributions to the screen include the haunting vampire film Let The Right One In (2008) and the gripping Millennium Trilogy which includes The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009).

LIFE

Breaking barriers

» Japan is known for many things, and its rich and robust culture attracts people from around the world. Besides food, movies and manga, the country also has a reputation for having one of the biggest pornographic and adult-toy industries in the world. While sex is a natural thing, Thailand is rarely open about it because we view it as taboo, vulgar and immoral. But whether you admit it or not, we have all seen 18+ content from Japan at some point in our life.

LIFE

The illusion of justice

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 26/04/2023

» Even after a three-year hiatus, ratings for the first season of period crime drama Perry Mason have made the show one of this year's highly anticipated shows. Perry Mason is known for its well-executed storytelling and performances by actors that make something old-fashioned feel new again. In fact, the show could have been HBO's highest-viewed series to date in terms of total viewers if not for the success of The Last Of Us.
