Her passing marks the end of an era for conservation, empathy and scientific discovery. The Jane Goodall Institute announced that she died of natural causes while on a speaking tour in California doing what she had done all her life -- sharing her message of hope for the planet.

Ever since the release of Jaws (1975) and more modern offerings like Deep Blue Sea (1999) and The Shallows (2016), subsequent shark films have grown increasingly absurd.

» Japanese anime, a genre loved by many, has taken the world by storm, especially over the past few years. And with Star Wars being a pop-culture phenomenon and one of the biggest sci-fi franchises on the planet, some may have wondered how an non-American-made computer-animated Star Wars movie besides The Clone Wars (2008) and The Bad Batch (2021) would look. Fortunately, we now know with the release of Star Wars: Visions, a nine-episode anime series featuring independent stories written for the Star Wars universe and for fans looking for something different. The first season is now available on Disney+, which recently dropped all the episodes.
Interdimensional adventures

» We're currently halfway through the fifth season of Rick And Morty and the show is still going strong. This time, the 10-episode season has no breaks. That's right, they're not breaking the season in half as they did for Season 4 between 2019 and 2020 due to Covid-19.
Alien threat returns

» Over the past few years, it's been amazing to see Chris Pratt's transition to a mega action star from a small role as Andy, a goofy boyfriend in the sitcom Parks And Recreation, to more sci-fi and action roles like Peter Quill/Star-Lord in The Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise, a mysterious mechanical engineer in space thriller Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence or dinosaur researcher Owen Grady in the Jurassic World franchise. Now Pratt is using his skills to play a military scientist with daddy issues who goes against time on a mission to save the world from an alien invasion in The Tomorrow War. Although lacking an original idea, with parts of the story derived from many past sci-fi hits, The Tomorrow War is still an enjoyable action-adventure with adrenaline-fuelled chase sequences.
Half-baked superhero comedy

» It's not difficult to tell the difference between good and bad comedy movies. A good comedy is simply a film that makes us laugh, and those that fail to do that are easily forgotten. When I first heard that the latest Netflix original Thunder Force was written and directed by Melissa McCarthy's husband, Ben Falcone, who has also directed movies like Tammy (2014), The Boss (2016), Life Of The Party (2018) and Superintelligence (2020), I was bracing for the worst. Although Thunder Force may be a step up from Falcone's previous films as it attempts to bring a new story to the table -- the superhero angle in this case -- everything else is straight from the script, from execution to the jokes which all missed the mark.
Amusing end to an unfunny year
