» I usually have a soft spot for Scandinavian thrillers. Oftentimes, they're so unique and interesting that Hollywood ends up remaking them -- like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009) or The Hunt (2012). There's a kind of slow-burning tension and cold realism to them that you don't always get in American shows. » I am always intrigued when filmmakers attempt to blend two polar opposite genres -- such as horror and comedy -- just to see how it turns out. These films can either be a surprising hit or an awkward miss. In the case of The Parenting, the latest comedy-horror offering from MAX, I'd say it unfortunately leans closer to the miss side. In this film, the main character is injected with a paralytic agent by a killer, leaving her fighting to survive while her mobility fades.

Caddo Lake is a collaborative effort by filmmakers Celine Held and Logan George, who team up with producer M. Night Shyamalan to craft a mystery-thriller that skilfully blends family drama with elements of science fiction. While many movies and series explore similar premises, this one manages to stand out, offering an engaging and suspenseful ride.

» A grand mansion on a remote island. A wealthy family gathered for a joyous occasion. But the celebration comes to a screeching halt when a sudden murder occurs, and an outside detective is called in to solve the case. Sound familiar? Netflix's latest miniseries The Perfect Couple seems like an attempt to create their very own The White Lotus. But does it succeed in delivering the same intrigue and sharp satire?
