LIFE

Spiralling delusions

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 24/10/2025

» The Perfect Neighbor, a new Netflix true crime documentary that premiered at Sundance earlier this year, examines a devastating incident that exposes the fractures of contemporary American life. It portrays a small community coming apart under the pressures of paranoia, racism and gun culture -- issues that remain deeply embedded across the country.

LIFE

When two genres collide

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 21/03/2025

» I am always intrigued when filmmakers attempt to blend two polar opposite genres -- such as horror and comedy -- just to see how it turns out. These films can either be a surprising hit or an awkward miss. In the case of The Parenting, the latest comedy-horror offering from MAX, I'd say it unfortunately leans closer to the miss side. While it has a decent premise and some entertaining moments, the overall execution falls flat, making it feel more like a missed opportunity than a memorable film.

Blending cultures

» Lenin Tamayo, a name that evokes revolutionary history, is bringing his own musical revolution to the world stage. Born in Lima, Peru, and named after Vladimir Lenin, the leader of the Russian Revolution, Tamayo has embarked on a journey to redefine Peruvian music. His mission is bold -- to blend Quechua, the language of the Incas, with the global phenomenon of K-pop, creating a new genre he calls Quechua Pop, or Q-pop. He began his journey in 2019 and has been very successful, having been featured in Rolling Stone's "19 Latin Artists We're Rooting For In 2024".

LIFE

A quirky mystery comedy

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 28/07/2023

» I went into Netflix's latest movie They Cloned Tyrone without any expectations, but this turned out to be one of the best original films the platform has come out with this year. The film is a unique blend -- quirky, mysterious and funny. It's a blaxploitation throwback set in modern times with a sci-fi twist and is definitely thought-provoking.

» Calling all movie lovers as one of the largest international film festivals in Southeast Asia, "World Film Festival of Bangkok", has returned to Thailand from Dec 2-11 at SF World Cinema, CentralWorld.

LIFE

A modern twist to an old story

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 16/09/2022

» Pinocchio is the latest to join Disney's assembly line of turning classic cartoons into computer-generated live-action remakes. In this film, Forrest Gump (1994), Cast Away (2000) and The Polar Express (2004) director Robert Zemeckis is reunited with Tom Hanks, who retells the tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Despite the high-budget production, and the director's attempt to bring an old-fashioned story with a modern voice, Pinocchio feels somewhat lifeless and in the middle of the mediocre pack.

LIFE

Man against nature

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 11/03/2022

» 'You should never think you can never make it. You should always believe there'll be a way," said one explorer to another while travelling 1,450km across a bone-chilling climate in a historical expedition.

LIFE

The tragedy behind the triumph

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 09/08/2019

» The life of a professional athlete may appear to be nothing but glamorous and prestigious to those on the outside. But there's often a lot more going on behind the scenes than we're aware of.

LIFE

A star is reborn

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 12/10/2018

» Why is everyone talking about A Star Is Born? Partly because it's a musical romantic drama that has been retold so many times in Hollywood (now, as well as in 1976, 1957, 1937). It's also because the film features two of the best-known faces in the film and music worlds: Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. The film has already gathered Oscar buzz, especially surrounding the speculation that the two leads would receive matching nominations.
