LIFE

Scooby-Doo for adults

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 20/02/2026

» Going into the first episode of the new Netflix series set in Ireland, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast, I was quite sceptical, as the setup somewhat reminded me of Stephen King's IT -- a group of nerdy childhood friends, now adults, returning to their hometown after 26 years to confront old fears and a dark secret from their past.

LIFE

A blunt slasher

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 30/05/2025

» It has been four years since Netflix released the Fear Street trilogy -- three interconnected slasher films that mixed 80s nostalgia, supernatural lore and time-hopping ambition. The movies came out during a period when anything evoking retro aesthetics, especially the 1980s, like Stranger Things, practically guaranteed success. Though far from perfect, the original Fear Street trilogy had its own pulpy charm, especially in the way it linked three different time periods together into one cohesive and mysterious narrative.

While this spin-off series doesn't demand encyclopaedic knowledge of the four John Wick movies that preceded it, it undoubtedly inherits the relentless action and vengeful spirit that has defined the franchise. But does it manage to shine as brilliantly as its predecessor?

LIFE

Piecing together a lost night

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 21/01/2022

» Gender inequality, sexual abuse and societal attitudes towards women are common issues in Southeast Asia, yet not many dare to bring such a topic into a story especially those from conservative countries. So to see Indonesian filmmaker Wregas Bhanuteja explore and highlight this in his directorial debut, Photocopier is absolutely a bold move and quite admirable. Although without much information on the film and whether this is based on a real event or not, Photocopier is a gritty, riveting dramatic crime mystery that feels realistic and honest.

LIFE

Horror tale for the family

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 24/09/2021

» As we get closer to October and Halloween, finding spooky movies to watch with the family isn't so easy. But if you're a fan of horror movies and TV shows like Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, The Twilight Zone or Goosebumps, be sure to check out Nightbooks, a new Netflix dark fantasy about a boy imprisoned by an evil witch in her New York City apartment. The film has gone a bit under the radar even though it's produced by renowned filmmaker Sam Raimi. While Nightbooks is certainly not for young audiences, the 12-year-old inside of me would have absolutely enjoyed this movie.
