A musical misfire

» Despite the controversies surrounding Joker (2019) upon release, I found many things to admire about the film. Whether it was the ambitious storytelling, the refreshing take on an iconic DC character, or the homage it paid to Martin Scorsese's classics like Taxi Driver (1976) and The King Of Comedy (1982), there was a lot to appreciate. However, when I heard they were making a sequel to what was supposed to be a standalone film, I had a bad feeling. Now that I've seen Joker: Folie À Deux, I can't say my opinion has changed.

2020: The year virtual concerts took off

» International concerts were absent for much of 2020 as every tour and festival was postponed or cancelled due to the pandemic. While there was not much to look forward to, one ray of hope we had amid the absence of live music was to see the number of artists around the globe covering all genres turning to the virtual world as a new medium to engage with their music fans. They took to social media live-streaming to give fans a much-needed virtual music fix and while the novelty of DIY online concerts filmed in artist's living rooms and home studios via Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube wore off after a few days in quarantine, many musicians and music labels quickly became even more creative in lockdown and evolved a whole raft of innovative and all-round entertaining virtual concerts bringing the new experience of live music into people's homes.

» Recently, music fans around the world screamed with delight when alternative pop superstar Billie Eilish performed a digitally revamped version of a set from her postponed world tour that was supposed to take place earlier this year. While fans knew that Where Do We Go? came from the title of Eilish's debut album (When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?), the title seemed appropriate for a livestream concert since it makes listeners think about where they can actually go while everyone is under lockdown.
