» If the phrase "keeps you guessing till the very end" is loosely used these days, it genuinely applies to the new crime-mystery limited series His & Hers, a show in which the stakes are high and its central characters have far too much to lose.

» Fans of whodunnit murder mystery will be delighted to hear that Netflix has finally given us an adaptation of Richard Osman's best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club, reimagined in the form of a movie. This adaptation is a fun, cosy and poignant little puzzle -- an engaging mix of heart, sorrow, humour and late-life epiphanies.

» After what feels like an eternity, Netflix has finally brought Jenna Ortega back to our screens -- and back to the shadowy corridors of Nevermore Academy -- in Wednesday Season 2. This time, we're getting the story in two halves: Part 1 now, Part 2 in September. That split alone is enough to test the patience of fans who have been waiting since the breakout first season, but at least these four new episodes offer enough twists, revelations, and deliciously dark moments to keep us hooked until the rest arrives.

» After weeks of building hype, especially with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score before it even opened in cinemas, Weapons arrives with massive expectations. And despite there being only four months left in 2025, many are already calling it the scariest movie of the year.

» The Better Sister is the kind of show that proves that even with a stellar cast, a gripping premise and polished production, there's no guarantee it will deliver a consistently entertaining experience. That isn't to say the latest Prime Video mystery thriller is a bad series -- far from it -- but it struggles to stand out in a genre already saturated with stronger contenders. We've probably seen a dozen shows that handled similar material with more finesse and momentum.

» Remember the 90s thriller film Presumed Innocent starring Harrison Ford as a lawyer investigating the murder of a colleague? Now, the classic story based on a novel by Scott Turow is getting a television version. The first two episodes have already dropped on Apple TV+, with new episodes releasing weekly until the finale on July 24. This adaptation of Turow's novel is filled with dynamic and dramatic moments, but can it accurately capture the mystery that drives the story?

» I went into Netflix's latest movie They Cloned Tyrone without any expectations, but this turned out to be one of the best original films the platform has come out with this year. The film is a unique blend -- quirky, mysterious and funny. It's a blaxploitation throwback set in modern times with a sci-fi twist and is definitely thought-provoking.

» Over the past few decades, we have seen Jake Gyllenhaal's massive transformation from being a Hollywood teenage heartthrob into one of the most diverse acting resumes around. Some of his best roles recently, usually revolve around high drama stories or within crime and thriller genres, like David Ayer's cop drama End Of Watch, Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners (2013) or Dan Gilroy's thriller Nightcrawler (2014). In between those years, Gyllenhaal's fun and expressive eyes became less reactive and more serious and grim. The Guilty, a new Netflix drama, feels almost like a continuation of that same persona by Gyllenhaal but with a unique and gripping story about a police officer at a 911 call centre in a high-stakes game against time to stop a kidnapping. It's a remake of the 2018 Danish film of the same name, directed by Antoine Fuqua of Training Day (2001), Brooklyn's Finest (2009) and Southpaw (2015) fame.

» While the idea of Korea and space exploration in reality may still be too far-fetched, South Korean filmmakers seem to be interested in exploring the search of mysterious planets above the sky. After we got the high-octane space adventure Space Sweepers on Netfllix earlier this year, the service recently gave us another outer-space show. The Silent Sea is a mystery thriller series that tackles the darker aspect of space missions and goes even further and deeper into conspiracy and mystery with its revelations and how this all connects to human civilisation's impending doom.

» Old-fashioned whodunnit or detective murder-mystery stories are very successful as novels and television series, but we don't get to see as many of them on film nowadays, let alone a decent one. We may have had the remake of Murder On The Orient Express two years ago, although the movie was kind of a flop, or there's the Sherlock Holmes movie franchise with Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. But even those are based on already very popular characters in literature.
