» The Perfect Neighbor, a new Netflix true crime documentary that premiered at Sundance earlier this year, examines a devastating incident that exposes the fractures of contemporary American life. It portrays a small community coming apart under the pressures of paranoia, racism and gun culture -- issues that remain deeply embedded across the country.

» By now, it's hard to find anyone who hasn't heard about the runaway success of GDH's latest Netflix miniseries Mad Unicorn. But if you happen to be one of the few who hasn't started watching it, here's a word of warning: make sure you clear your schedule before hitting play. Because once you begin, I guarantee you'll be pulled into its orbit -- binging episode after episode until day and night blur into one.

» I usually have a soft spot for Scandinavian thrillers. Oftentimes, they're so unique and interesting that Hollywood ends up remaking them -- like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009) or The Hunt (2012). There's a kind of slow-burning tension and cold realism to them that you don't always get in American shows. » Amazon Prime's most anticipated fantasy series The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power finally premiered its first episodes on the platform last week, marking a strong start with breathtaking cinematography, excellent visual effects, a compelling story and a huge budget of reportedly US$60 million (2.1 billion baht) per episode, which is twice that of Stranger Things Season 4, and quadruple the cost Game Of Thrones' final season.

» There are many ways to frighten audiences in horror movies -- tense storytelling, a gripping narrative, or an eerie atmosphere. However, jump scares are usually a cheap trick to make the audience think they're scared, especially when the filmmaker tends to accompany it with a very loud and frightening sound without any build-up.

» All of us have unique family histories and where we come from can shape who we are today. As a semi-autobiographical account, filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung captures the essence of family and recounts his upbringing in Minari, an emotional rollercoaster family drama about a Korean immigrant family who embarks on a new life in Arkansas in the 1980s, only to discover that the so-called American dream doesn't always come easy.

» Twisty South Korean time-travel slasher has an intriguing premise on paper but the film struggles to find its own identity.
