When two genres collide

» I am always intrigued when filmmakers attempt to blend two polar opposite genres -- such as horror and comedy -- just to see how it turns out. These films can either be a surprising hit or an awkward miss. In the case of The Parenting, the latest comedy-horror offering from MAX, I'd say it unfortunately leans closer to the miss side. While it has a decent premise and some entertaining moments, the overall execution falls flat, making it feel more like a missed opportunity than a memorable film.

Third time unlucky

» Due to the pandemic's lasting impact, the release date in Thailand for the highly-anticipated third instalment in The Conjuring franchise, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, was delayed several times. Originally meant to hit theatres last year, the film was postponed several times before finding a new date earlier this month. Now that Thai cinemas outside Bangkok are allowed to reopen, The Devil Made Me Do It is playing on the big screen and it will eventually be streamed on HBO GO as well.

» It's quite rare that a film from Taiwan would make it to Thai cinemas, but The Tag-Along: Devil Fish is an exception, as the film was picked up by Malaysia-based distributor Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) to be a part of the 10 territories of Southeast Asia.
