» Pinocchio is the latest to join Disney's assembly line of turning classic cartoons into computer-generated live-action remakes. In this film, Forrest Gump (1994), Cast Away (2000) and The Polar Express (2004) director Robert Zemeckis is reunited with Tom Hanks, who retells the tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Despite the high-budget production, and the director's attempt to bring an old-fashioned story with a modern voice, Pinocchio feels somewhat lifeless and in the middle of the mediocre pack.

» Joe Wright's latest directorial thriller The Woman In The Window has recently been the centre of criticism by fans of the book that the film is based on and others who think the premise borrowed too much from Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 classic film Rear Window. But regardless if one calls it a rip off or an homage to Hitchcock, the opening scene of the movie utilises the camera to pan across the interior of a lonely apartment and settle on a TV freeze-frame of James Stewart's anguished face from Rear Window, so at least they're acknowledging the similarities. And yes, this film is also all about peeping.

So when the fire broke on April 15 and destroyed the spire and most parts of the roof of the 850-year-old church, not only was the building structure devastated but so was the spirit of people the world over who grieved over the near destruction of an important church in the heart of Paris.
