Punk's not dead!

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 18/02/2025

» How often do we get the chance to see our favourite band visit our country and perform live, especially when they come from halfway across the globe? Last Thursday, American pop-punk legends Green Day returned to Bangkok for the first time in 15 years. The expansive Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani transformed into a high-energy haven for rock fans, who packed the venue from wall to wall, singing, jumping and screaming along as Green Day delivered an electrifying two-hour set.

Worth the wait

» 'Wow! There are a lot of foreigners here. Is there a concert here tonight?" a taxi driver asked while dropping me off in front of the Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani last Wednesday. "Billie who? Never heard of them. Are they popular?" Of course, there are some people who have never heard of Billie Eilish before. But definitely not the thousands of people gathered at the arena. In fact, most have been waiting more than three years to see this actual concert.

Is the media to blame?

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 20/12/2021

» Can you separate fantasy from reality? A lot of people know that the media has a desensitising effect on people, especially children and teens. Whether it's movies, music or video games, the effect of viewing violence can lead to aggression. Personally, these stories have never been a direct issue with me. When I was younger I always wondered why people wouldn't be able to tell which story should stay in a movie or in our imagination, and which is reality. However, we still see more and more news of violence and regular crimes, which is a direct consequence of watching movies and various media.

Amusing end to an unfunny year

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 01/01/2021

» The year has finally come to an end, and obviously, not many will find 2020 to be a memorable year. It would be absurd to rank which event was worse, however, sometimes when there are many bad or crazy things to recount, we should take them as something to laugh about. And that's exactly what Death To 2020, Netflix's new comedy special, is all about.

2020: The year virtual concerts took off

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 22/12/2020

» International concerts were absent for much of 2020 as every tour and festival was postponed or cancelled due to the pandemic. While there was not much to look forward to, one ray of hope we had amid the absence of live music was to see the number of artists around the globe covering all genres turning to the virtual world as a new medium to engage with their music fans. They took to social media live-streaming to give fans a much-needed virtual music fix and while the novelty of DIY online concerts filmed in artist's living rooms and home studios via Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube wore off after a few days in quarantine, many musicians and music labels quickly became even more creative in lockdown and evolved a whole raft of innovative and all-round entertaining virtual concerts bringing the new experience of live music into people's homes.

A livestream show like no other

Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 02/11/2020

» Recently, music fans around the world screamed with delight when alternative pop superstar Billie Eilish performed a digitally revamped version of a set from her postponed world tour that was supposed to take place earlier this year. While fans knew that Where Do We Go? came from the title of Eilish's debut album (When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?), the title seemed appropriate for a livestream concert since it makes listeners think about where they can actually go while everyone is under lockdown.

Adventuring into middle age

» The "excellent" catchphrase and air guitar moves by Bill and Ted in the films Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) provided some of the most memorable moments in American pop culture. Furthermore, the Bill & Ted franchise introduced to us a Hollywood superstar in the making in the form of actor Keanu Reeves long before he featured in blockbusters such as Speed, The Matrix and John Wick.
