» Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is a well-known as an art centre in Bangkok. This year, it launched the Local Networking Project to provide a platform for artists from other regions besides the capital. The project involves fieldwork in various locations across the country. Artists have the opportunity to explore local legends, folktales, unrecorded histories and contemporary community lifestyles.

» Kantapon Metheekul is known for "Teleport Art", his street art in New York. Kantapon, better known as Gongkan, has been absent from exhibiting in Thailand for three years as he was focusing on international solo exhibitions. In the past years, he has developed his work beyond his early creations and currently his paintings can sell for 1 million baht.

» Due to her interest in northern handicrafts, textile artist Kanchalee Ngamdamronk worked with an artisan from Lamphun and one from the Lisu ethnic group. Their collaborative work resulted in the exhibition "Polychrome".
A vinyl revival

» Organised by the King Rama IX Music Library and the Princess Sirindhorn Music Library, under the Fine Arts Department of Thailand, the exhibition "Record Discs In Siam" takes visitors back to the times when shellac and vinyl records were still popular. At the exhibition, visitors will see wax cylinders -- the recording medium that preceded vinyl records -- cassette tapes and compact discs. Other items include rare shellac record discs, vinyl discs and vintage record players.

» Looking back on the year in music, the global phenomenon BTS helped propel the fan base expansion of K-pop groups into the United States. BTS, the seven-member boy band, continues to break recording history and open new frontiers for Asian artists. In March, IFPI, the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide, named BTS as its Global Recording Artist of the Year 2020. The septet won over Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish, who ranked second to fifth place respectively. The boy band was the first Asian artist to win the IFPT Global Recording Artist of the Year Award.

» Residents of the Mahakan Fort Community were evicted from their homes in 2017 after the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) decided to turn the historic area into a public park. Before everything was torn down, Bangkok Sketcher, a group of artists who draw on location, visited the site to capture the final moments of the community. Three urban sketchers in the group -- Suppachai Vongnoppadondacha, aka Louis Sketcher, Pitirat Yoswattana and Sompong Ngamsangrat -- were overwhelmed to witness the scene and were drawn to the architectural structures that would soon be demolished.

» A volunteer garbage collector in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Suthep Naktang spotted a lot of used surgical masks left on beaches in the province, which added to piles of trash he and his volunteer group collects everyday. The same happened in the northern province of Kamphaeng Phet, where people found discarded surgical masks, used tissue paper and disposed medical gloves littering Sirijit Park. Even in Bangkok, a street sweeper reportedly said she found up to five discarded surgical masks on the street every day.
