Challenging the norm

» After reading two books with red-coloured covers -- bell hooks' All About Love and Tara Costello's Red Moon Gang, Chanaradee Chatrakul Na Ayudhya, better known as juli baker and summer, became triggered by issues in the books, including relationships, politics, capitalism and menstruation. In order to convey the messages she perceived in the books, Chanaradee tracked her emotions throughout her 28-day menstruation cycle and transformed them into sketches. Inspired by her daily events, the artist created 29 paintings, one fibreglass sculpture and one animation for her latest exhibition titled "She's Too Much". All rough sketches are displayed at the showcase.
What is a labourer?

» In mainstream media, labourers are usually portrayed as muscular working-class men who engage in physical work to earn money. In order to expand this stereotypical image of labourers, three aspiring curators -- Trithida Trising, Kukasina Kubaha and Panod Srinual -- of the project "Start! Art Curator Season 2" created the exhibition "Crossing The Lines" to give a different interpretation of labourers.
Help women help themselves

» Last week, an ongoing exhibition "Ni Tas Sa Kee" or "Free Pads For All" was launched at The Pheu Thai Party's headquarters on New Phetchaburi Road. On view until March 31, "Free Pads For All", which distributes free sanitary pads to women, is a pilot project that Pheu Thai wants to push for the government to make policy.
Helping hands in the Himalayas

» A physician is one of the most respected careers, but like others, they also face difficulties. In a new book titled Himalai Tong Klub Pai Fung (Himalayan Health Exchange II) published by Salmon Books, Dr Kamphee Sruamsiri, a freelance emergency physician, wrote about his identity crisis which led him to participate in the Himalayan Health Exchange (HHE), a medical service that brings international healthcare professionals and students to treat people who live in remote areas of the Indian Himalayas and Indo-Tibetan borderlands.

» In May 2014, artist Surajate Tongchua was in a bank to pay his bills when the military launched a coup. The artist felt numb realising that the country would be ruled by a military dictatorship again, so he decided to collect receipts from that day to document the negative effect of the coup. He believed his payments for VAT at the rate of 7% were used to support the junta government. After collecting his and his family members' receipts for several years, Surajate started developing his art collection "Priceless" in 2017, which is on view at the new art gallery Manycuts Artspace Ari.

» People in the Thai photography industry were excited when the photography community HOP – Hub Of Photography, was established at Seacon Square in the Srinakarin area. Located on the third floor, HOP features two photo galleries -- HOP Photo Gallery and Whoop! as well as the HOP club, a library area for photo books and the sale of merchandise. HOP is run by three established photographers -- Sirima Chaipreechawit, Theerachat Potisit and Marisa Rungroj.
'Period rights are human rights'

» Varangtip Satchatippavarn was aware of the stigma surrounding menstruation since her first period. Period stigma is a misconception that regards women's monthly bleeding as dirty and disgraceful -- a taboo. Whenever Varangtip purchased sanitary napkins, the sellers would put them in double bags, so that other people could not see them. Varangtip also experienced allergic reactions to some sanitary pads, so she changed brands several times. To solve her allergy issue, the 26-year-old eventually launched her own sanitary napkin brand, Ira Concept, which is organic and 99% biodegradable.
