Art from the ashes

» In 2024, artist Kan Nathiwutthikun, better known as Kan Nathi, experienced living among smoke from wildfires since her house was located near Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai. After the wildfires were extinguished, Kan asked her assistant to go with her to collect ashes and burnt wood to create artwork. Some of those artworks are now on display at the exhibition "Blueprint of the Apocalypse" at VS Gallery.

» According to Asst Prof Dr Kaewta Nopmaneejumruslers, deputy director of the Clinical Services and Early Childhood Development Center, the National Institute for Child and Family Development (NICFD), Mahidol University, worldwide statistics showed that one infant out of every 1,000 newborns was diagnosed with autism a decade ago. Today, the number of infants born with autism has increased to 10 out of every 1,000 births.

» A 20-year-old female influencer, Gigi, and her air force cadet boyfriend Ikkyu were recently found dead in her condominium. A pistol, belonging to Ikkyu's father who is a military general, was discovered next to their bodies. Since only two individuals were present at the crime scene, police believe that Gigi's 19-year-old boyfriend may have shot her and then taken his own life.

» Three-wheeled vehicles, or tuk-tuks as they are known, are popular among tourists in Thailand due to their distinctive appearance and ability to provide a unique local experience. However, when start-up company Urban Mobility Tech (UMT) surveyed the pain points of passengers in Bangkok using public transportation, they responded that tuk-tuks did not have a standard price and the vehicles created noise and air pollution. In 2017, UMT decided to launch Muvmi, an electric tuk-tuk company, to provide an environmentally friendly and safe public transportation option to Bangkokians.

» Last week, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Tourism Authority Thailand announced that 8,745 people from Surin province succeeded in setting a new record of "the highest number of people folding fabric animals simultaneously" in the Guinness World Record. This event was part of the Elephant Festival, an annual event in Surin. Organised by the Surin provincial administration and TAT, the event of folding fabric into elephant dolls aimed to boost tourism since numbers had dropped due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Organisers also hoped the event would promote Surin fabric, which is a signature product of the province.
