Battling the big apps

» In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, an application called Tam Sang Tam Song (On Demand Delivery) was launched by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation in collaboration with the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University. The app was developed to assist motorbike taxi drivers and local restaurants through economic difficulties caused by lockdowns. As a pilot app, it was tested in Ladprao Soi 101 in Bangkok, Betong and Yala and received positive feedback.

» In 2022, Imhathai Suwatthanasilp created the exhibition "Plankton Star Virus" for the Biennale of Sydney, which ran under the theme "rivus" and means stream in Latin. Trapped during the Covid-19 lockdowns, Imhathai was unable to conduct field research, so she gathered information online and watched videos and documentaries.

» Thai artist Aimi Kaiya felt discouraged after she saw artwork by other international artists at Chianciano Biennale 2022 in Italy. Aimi felt the works were creative and of excellent quality. Therefore, she did not expect to win any prize at the Chianciano Biennale Award. Surprisingly, Aimi was the only Thai artist at the biennale who won the Chianciano Biennale Award for abstract artwork for her mixed media painting Romance In Venice.

However, due to the drastic decrease in the number of students, Sanguan had no choice but to sell the building where his SLS Learning Centre was located and switch to online tutoring instead. Despite the shift, Sanguan says the school doesn't have as many students as before and that the pandemic has worsened his financial situation.
