» Bangkok Design Week 2026 returned for its ninth year last month. This year, BKKDW2026 claims that, the festival is a systematic platform driving the city-level creative economy. » It is a rare and remarkable achievement for artists to exhibit at the Venice Biennale, one of the most prestigious art exhibitions in the world. This year, Thai artist Channatip Chanvipava showcases his solo exhibition “Sound Of Many Waters” featuring eight new paintings that presents the idea of fixed identities, belonging and subjective memory. The exhibition takes place at a 17th century Venetian dimora, open to the public for the first time.

» Global fans of Thai actor Suppasit "Mew" Jongcheveevat were thrilled when he announced he will be the producer of TV series The Ocean Eyes, which tells the story of a group of marine veterinarians. With an intriguing plot and a massive budget, The Ocean Eyes is a collaborative production between three countries: Thailand, China and the US. As an international star who plays the leading role, Suppasit has a chance to work with Hollywood producers, including Rick McCallum, producer of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and The Star Wars Special Editions; Herbert Primig, producer of the animation Star Wars: The Clone Wars; and Henry Gilroy, co-writer of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In a new book titled Himalai Tong Klub Pai Fung (Himalayan Health Exchange II) published by Salmon Books, Dr Kamphee Sruamsiri, a freelance emergency physician, wrote about his identity crisis which led him to participate in the Himalayan Health Exchange (HHE), a medical service that brings international healthcare professionals and students to treat people who live in remote areas of the Indian Himalayas and Indo-Tibetan borderlands.

» As part of the 2021 UOB Painting of the Year (Thailand) competition, artists were allowed to create paintings without restrictions in terms of imagination and ingenuity since there was no specific theme. The results were rewarding. The winner of UOB Painting of the Year (Thailand) in the established artist category, Vachira Kornthong, created a mixed media on canvas painting, Land Of Happiness, which depicts the hidden beauty and abundant happiness found in nature. Land Of Happiness stood out with its use of vibrant colours combined with a fabric applique technique. The message of nature conservation that the artwork implies also touched viewers.

Going for gold

» While a Thai university lecturer was studying in the UK, she bought Asian ceramics from an antique market and shipped them to Thailand. However, some of them broke during transport. Most people would have no choice but to throw away their beautiful ceramics. Fortunately, the lecturer is a friend of product designer Sumanatsya Voharn, who knows kintsugi, a prominent Japanese mending technique. The broken ceramics were repaired and a plate from the set was named East West Journey, which is currently on display along with 18 other ceramic items at the exhibition "Rak: An Assemble Collective" at SAC Gallery.
Tutoring centres feel the pinch

» An English-language teacher with over 45 years of experience, Sanguan Wongsuchart never expected Covid-19 to affect his tutoring business. However, due to the drastic decrease in the number of students, Sanguan had no choice but to sell the building where his SLS Learning Centre was located and switch to online tutoring instead. Despite the shift, Sanguan says the school doesn't have as many students as before and that the pandemic has worsened his financial situation.
