Battling the big apps

» In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, an application called Tam Sang Tam Song (On Demand Delivery) was launched by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation in collaboration with the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University. The app was developed to assist motorbike taxi drivers and local restaurants through economic difficulties caused by lockdowns. As a pilot app, it was tested in Ladprao Soi 101 in Bangkok, Betong and Yala and received positive feedback.

» Who's cutting onions? is a phrase used humorously when someone is crying. Tum Ulit, an artist, cartoonist and storyteller, titled his debut solo exhibition "Who's Cutting Onions?" to express loneliness, sorrow and profound emotions through poignant illustrations. The exhibition's main illustration, Sorry For Making You Cry, depicts an onion in the shape of a human wiping away tears for a female chef who is cutting an onion with a knife in her hand.

» Artist Kawita Vatanajyankur uses her entire body, especially feet, arms, hands and mouth, as a machine to weave red yarn into a piece of fabric that resembles a spider web. Kawita's spider web can be seen in the video Knit, which is part of the Performing Textiles Series.

» When Prachaya Sirimahaariyapoya was eight years old, she noticed that one of her classmates and a neighbour always wore a long sleeve shirt or jacket even on hot days. One day, the classmate took her jacket off and Prachaya saw several cuts on her classmate's arms. She was under pressure because of her parents' high expectations. Prachaya asked her mother to take her classmate to see a psychiatrist but the psychiatrist needed permission from the classmate's parents. The mother of her classmate thought her daughter was fine and did not need any consultation.
Drowning in plastic

To raise awareness about this issue and focus on its real cause, Warin Lab Contemporary is hosting its inaugural art installation titled "Swamped" by four multidisciplinary artists -- Thanawat Maneenawa (assemblage), Ploenchan Vinyaratn (textiles), Taweesak Molsawat (sculpture and performance) and Note Panayanggool (sound) -- on display at the 100-year-old building on Charoen Krung 36.

Despite a sudden change in driver and conductor behaviour after the survey was released, many public buses are still notorious for their impolite and inefficient services, as well as poor facilities, among many other things.
