» Written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, the Japanese manga Naruto has been popular since it was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 1999. The manga follows the story of orphan boy Naruto Uzumaki who overcomes deadly battles with rivals and confronts his past to become Hokage (chief) of Konoha no Sato (Hidden Leaf Village).
A textbook case of failure

» In the past few weeks, there has been criticism of the Thai language textbook Pasa Patee for 5th graders. In the ninth chapter titled "Value Of Life", a rich girl named Yaibua tells her best friend Khaopoon, who is an orphan, that she wanted to die because her parents did not buy her a new mobile phone. Khaopoon took Yaibua to her orphanage where she experienced a meal of some rice, half a boiled egg and fish sauce. Everyone was happy and enjoyed the meal. This made Yaibua realise that happiness comes from a person's state of mind, not material possessions.

» Due to Covid-19, many schools changed to hybrid learning which combines the use of technology for online and onsite teaching. Four schools -- Matthayom Watnairong School, Rittiyawannalai School, Panyarat High School and Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Loei -- use Google For Education, an online service featuring many apps including Gmail (email), Meet (video conference), Google Calendar (time management), Drive (file storage), Docs (online word processor), Sheets (spreadsheet), Slides (presentation) and Classroom (learning platform), to allow teachers and students to access lessons, presentations, assignments, documents and grades anywhere at anytime.

In a new book titled Himalai Tong Klub Pai Fung (Himalayan Health Exchange II) published by Salmon Books, Dr Kamphee Sruamsiri, a freelance emergency physician, wrote about his identity crisis which led him to participate in the Himalayan Health Exchange (HHE), a medical service that brings international healthcare professionals and students to treat people who live in remote areas of the Indian Himalayas and Indo-Tibetan borderlands.

» When Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn said he would explore ways to legalise the sale of e-cigarettes and vaping -- as many other countries have done -- since it poses less risk than conventional smoking, he also mentioned how e-cigarettes being sold online and on the black market damages the local tobacco market, leading to loss of 6 billion baht in income each year. » An English-language teacher with over 45 years of experience, Sanguan Wongsuchart never expected Covid-19 to affect his tutoring business. However, due to the drastic decrease in the number of students, Sanguan had no choice but to sell the building where his SLS Learning Centre was located and switch to online tutoring instead. Despite the shift, Sanguan says the school doesn't have as many students as before and that the pandemic has worsened his financial situation.

» The Bangkok metropolitan area has been in a state of continual change. Gravel roads turned to concrete. Large empty fields replaced with tall buildings and luxurious malls. Public transportation such as the BTS, MRT and buses have been extended to reach people in remote areas. And once friendly people with smiles, Thai people now prefer to look at their smartphone rather than paying attention to others.
