» At the start of the season probably no managerial seat in British football looked more secure than that of Brendan Rodgers at Celtic Park. In his second spell at Celtic he had just won successive titles to go with the other two he earned during his first stint in 2017 and 2018. With Old Firm rivals Rangers in disarray and sacking manager Russell Martin things looked nicely set up for Rodgers to add to the Celtic trophy cabinet.

» Newport County may be a little-known League Two side from Wales but when it comes to the FA Cup the Exiles don't shy away from the big guns. In 2018 they almost beat Tottenham Hotspur and following year they took on league champions Manchester City. Tomorrow their fourth round opponents are Manchester United.

» Last week I watched on TV a couple of half-decent films on American sports -- Moneyball (2011) starring Brad Pitt as a baseball manager and Any Given Sunday (1999) with Al Pacino as coach of an underperforming American gridiron team.
