» In addition to tackling the unprecedented hot weather, something else Wimbledon had to get used to this past week is that for the first time there are no line judges. Breaking a very long tradition they have been replaced by electronic devices, a true sign of the times.

» When the Leicester team came out onto the pitch at the King Power Stadium last Saturday it was good to hear they are still greeted by the stirring strains of the Post-Horn Gallop. It must be the most traditional piece of music to grace a football stadium in the English League and quite appropriate for a team nicknamed the Foxes.

» As a student in London in the mid 1960s, whenever possible I would take in a game at one of big football clubs. Having been brought up watching Reading in the old Third Division at their modest Elm Park home, just being in a large stadium with crowds of more than 30,000 was itself a thrill.
