Regis a gifted pioneer and graceful icon

Sports, Nobby Piles, Published on 20/01/2018

» It was very sad to learn of the death of former West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City star Cyrille Regis who died earlier this week at the all too young age of 59. Regis was much more than just a talented footballer and became a symbol for the fight against racism in Britain at a time when things were in danger of getting out of hand. He had dignity and grace and he played a significant role in changing people's attitudes with his skills on the pitch and his dignified stance off it.

He's got red hair, will West Ham care?

Sports, Nobby Piles, Published on 11/11/2017

» It is probably fair to say that the appointment of David Moyes as West Ham manager has not exactly been greeted by Hammers' fans dancing in the streets. Sports, Nobby Piles, Published on 26/08/2017

» Last week witnessed something of an historic occasion for cricket with England hosting its first-ever day-night Test match against the West Indies at Edgbaston. Sadly the game did not really match the occasion with the hapless Windies totally outplayed by the home side. England won by a massive innings and 209 runs with the match done and dusted after just three days, not forgetting the nights of course.

» The British and Irish Lions got the result they so desperately needed in Wellington last week in a nerve-jangling but thrilling game. They just about deserved it and preventing the All Blacks from scoring a try was a feat in itself. But they will be under no illusions about the task they face today... beware the wounded All Blacks.

As long as Ariya has fun she'll be OK

Sports, Nobby Piles, Published on 17/06/2017

» After last week's farcical false alarm, courtesy of the LPGA, we can now safely applaud Ariya 'May' Jutanagarn for becoming Thailand's first No.1 on the tour. It is a tremendous achievement by Ariya at the age of just 21, and the whole kingdom is rightly very proud of her taking over the reins from Lydia Ko of New Zealand.

Sports, Nobby Piles, Published on 21/01/2017

» A common theme among the obituaries for former England manager Graham Taylor who died last week aged 72, was the contrast in his huge success in managing clubs like Watford, Aston Villa and Lincoln and the despair he suffered in the England job.

Sports, Nobby Piles, Published on 24/12/2016
