Chow down challenges

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 26/06/2015

» Eating a lot doesn’t have to cost you a satang — if you can do it exceptionally fast. There are restaurants out there that offer eating challenges with a side of sweet prizes. Whether you fancy yourself a curry combatant, a noodle-slurping machine or a pizza pulverizer, Guru has searched the nation (and skimmed countless menus) for six restaurants where you can eat big and win big. We’ve also asked eating champions for tips on how to eat like a pro. Bon appetit!

» Tomorrow (Jan 10) is Thai Children’s Day and we big kids at Guru think you should never forget your inner child. You can feel like a kid all year round, actually. No, we don’t mean sucking your thumb while no one is watching or throwing a tantrum when your parents refuse to buy you a new Lamborghini. We mean partaking in our selection of activities that are suitable for big (and small) kids. Happy Children’s Day, kiddos!

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 29/06/2012

» With the current barrage of talent shows on television, we guestimate that every Thai person will have their 15 minutes of fame by the end of 2013. However, most of the "talent" we have seen is either debatable (painting with bare breasts), as original as eating green curry with kanom jeen (covering the same ol' songs) or kinda disturbing (children belching out love songs). To flesh out the real capabilities of this fine nation, we have sought out individuals with unique and special abilities for your entertainment. And for our own amusement, we decided to appoint ourselves as the judge for our very own "Thailand's Got Weird Talent" show. Here are the finalists.

Off the beaten track

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/02/2012

» There are certain must-see attractions for first-time visitors to Thailand: Patpong, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Khao San Road, an elephant show, ladyboy cabaret, Hua Hin, a Full Moon party, some more beaches... But with all this distraction, visitors might miss out on the atypical attractions your average tour guide doesn't know about. To do our part in promoting the miracle that is Thai tourism, we have selected five lesser-known villages where visitors can discover Thais living in unique ways.
