Mackerel festival promises to be fishy affair

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 16/11/2017

» The cool season has arrived in Thailand and this is the best time to enjoy pla thu. Pla thu (Rastrelliger brachysoma) or short-bodied mackerel is widely available in the Gulf of Thailand. However, pla thu is now rather expensive. A 15cm pla thu can be priced around 25-30 baht each.

Red paper lanterns are hung in lines outside shops decorated in Japanese style. Mother and son walk on the footpath, and, until they come closer, their Japanese conversation in soft voices make me think I may be displaced.
