» Stepping off of the red carpet, the gorgeous Lao star Vilouna Phetmany -- known by her stage name Tot Lina -- began to greet us in perfect Thai. On Wednesday, she attended the gala opening of the Bangkok Asean Film Festival, shining among the regional superstars. Tomorrow the festival will screen the film she stars in, a new-wave Lao horror called Nong Hak, before it goes into general release on May 18.

» The producers at Kantana Group were in for some big challenges when they decided to renew the model-seeking reality show The Face Thailand for a third season. When Season 2 aired in late 2015, it was a big hit -- a television phenomenon that mixes talent-seeking, scripted drama and saucy characterisation of the three mentors -- Metinee "Lukkade" Kingpayome, Namthip "Bee" Jongrachatawiboon and Chris Horwang -- whose constant bickering was the real attraction of the show. It was one of those shows everyone had to watch so they could inject their own commentary and fuel discussions online and in-office pantry.

Despite the heat, local farmers weren't deterred from heading out to their field with baskets in tow. Not before long, they returned with a handful of cabbages -- fresh, crisp and ready to be transported to the local Nam Duk Tai Vegetable Co-operative.

That means there won't be much else for cinema-goers to choose from, since no other Hollywood blockbusters or Thai movies are willing to go in direct competition with director Banjong Pisanthanakun's latest creation. His previous movie -- the comedic retelling of old folklore Pee Mak Phra Khanong -- made history by reaching 1 billion baht at the box office in 2013, something we're unlikely to see again in a long, long time.
