Rebecca Minkoff lands in Chidlom

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 10/12/2016

» Giving the Boho girls a decent but affordable handbag since 2009, Rebecca Minkoff is a New York import the college kids are sure to love. Recently arriving on our shores in the department store of Central Chidlom, this accessible luxury brand is your go-to for leather handbags and accessories that flaunt no brand name and conspicuous monograms. The fashion flock knows how to spot a Rebecca Minkoff bag a mile away though: it's all in the hardware. Look for the latch that is usually positioned in the centre of the bag -- clearly serving no practical purpose, but looks darn nice and edgy. The brand has also been presenting embellished straps for a couple of years now -- a trend other bag houses have only recently copied. This is the perfect solution if you can't quite part with your old bag but are equally bored with it: just spice it up with a new strap.

New looks

» Last month, Fashion Field Trip returned for the sixth year to showcase their autumn/winter collections. Held at Sathon's event hot spot Bangkok CityCity Gallery, this year's shows are not the mega-spectacle they usually are, with at most 150 spectators at each show. Still, shows should always be about the clothes, and it's relevant that Vickteerut, Issue and Asava all thought it was appropriate to scale down and return to their roots. In this digital age, it's easy to drift away from the fact that the purpose of shows has always been for press, buyers and VVVIPs of the brand -- not, you know, everyone who owns a smartphone. There wasn't much legroom, with the gallery's small space and even more limited seats, this year, so here's our recap on the industry's big three this season.

» Hailed as a woman who has revived modern tap dance, Sarah Reich commands a strong following -- her YouTube videos have garnered almost 1 million views. Fusing a funky street style and catchy beats of today with classic tap techniques, it's not just swing music that she taps into: Lady Gaga's Bad Romance and Star Wars theme songs are among her playlist. The tap awakens, indeed.

Let them see you sweat

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 17/09/2016

» The major summer sporting season may be ending (tomorrow is the last day of the Paralympics in Rio), but as of late, Thais have never needed any excuse to sport running shoes and sports bras everywhere. Being the exhibitionists we are, people are doing all they can to exhibit their active lifestyle: parading through malls, cafés and even offices in fancy exercising gear. Optional: actually working out. The fitness crowd is increasingly dressing to the nines to exercise, making it much easier on the eyes to take those outfits outside the gym.

Girls just wanna have fun

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 15/07/2016

» Two colossal brands are at play here: the first being New York City's most popular ghost-catching, proton-pack-toting squad, called the Ghostbusters, and the second being Hollywood's first lady of comedy that is Melissa McCarthy. Stew the two together and it becomes the don't-miss comedy of the summer, packed with familiarly satisfying ectoplasmic gags and villains that look like cartoon marshmallows.

Dress for summer

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 19/05/2016

» 'It's always going to be summer somewhere in the world," Juliana Affonso Ferreira says optimistically. What the blonde half of the Brazilian fashion brand Isolda means is that there will always be a place and time for those who want to be dressed in her brand's tropic-appropriate, flowery numbers. Along with childhood friend and co-founder Maya Pop, both of whom were in ravishing dresses with exotic flowers, Ferreira was in Bangkok for the first time last week to visit the Isolda corner at the Beige multi-label store in Siam Paragon.
