Setting it off

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 14/07/2019

» From its humble start lurking in the shadows of J-pop to partially dominating the globe, the unstoppable power of K-pop has been fascinating to witness. Today, in the hazy wake of the Gangnam Style craze, the genre has grown to have its own annual convention, KCON, which is aimed to celebrate South Korean culture at various locations around the world. In North America, K-pop boy bands and girl bands are being received with open arms. Groups like seven-member boyband BTS have even gone so far as to win 2017's Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist, beating pop royalty like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande.

B Magazine, Chanun Poomsawai, Published on 09/12/2018

» Apart from the show's male winner Rangsan "Songkran" Panyaruen, The Voice Thailand Season 2 gave us a handful of female vocalists who'd showed strong potential including Violette Wautier and Rapeeporn "Lukpeach" Tantragoon. The former, as you may well be aware, has just started self-releasing her own music to wide acclaim. Lukpeach, on the other hand, found herself snug under the wing of Malama Collective, a co-op record label founded by Bangkok-based indie-music streaming platform Fungjai.

Hitting High Notes

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 12/10/2018

» This year saw finalists from Southeast Asia, South Korea, India, Australia and China perform at Aloft Seoul Myeongdong on Sep 20. Hanita Bhambri delivered a powerful performance of Let Me Go and is this year's winner. Through Aloft's partnership with Universal Music Group, she gets a music video and a digital release of her single to kick start her career. Although Nontree "Nate" Paitoonvongvira, who represented SEA, didn't win, he wowed the audience with a catchy performance so much that we want (you) to get to know him. You may remember him performing a jazz rendition of Britney Spears' Toxic on The Voice but there's more to this singer/interior designer.

After stints in countries like Congo and Turkey, she relocated to New York, where she pursued her artistic passions, dabbling in film study before eventually focusing on music. This gave her a bit of a head start in the industry because, by the time she graduated, she'd already self-released two records, Lush and Retired From Sad, New Career In Business, as part of her school projects.
