Fish 'n chips 'n delicious to the lips

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 05/05/2017

» The Setting: Sukhumvit Soi 23 is not really a place well-known for good dining options and more for being the location of the infamous Soi Cowboy. Yet, a newly-opened restaurant on the premises is set to change all that. Walking into Papa's Fish 'n Chips is like walking into a rustic, industrial, chill-out place that has a banging adult rock playlist and a centre table that pops out thanks to the blue-white tiles imported all the way from Italy. It's a different atmosphere from what you'll see outside -- bars and street food. And despite having only been opened for about three weeks, Papa's Fish 'n Chips has a menu that blows us all away.

Goin' full American

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 31/03/2017

» The Setting: Stepping inside the small, homey restaurant makes you feel as if you've left Thailand and entered a diner somewhere in America. It's not just because of the feel of the restaurant and the food. The owner, Katherine, is Thai-American and is very much hands-on with her customers, making them feel welcome and right at home and going around and checking up on them as they eat. We think that makes all the difference in terms of service and atmosphere because it was nice to have a mother-like figure asking you if you're doing okay and checking if you're still breathing after eating so much. Despite the somewhat small space, the restaurant welcomes regulars who come in every week. We think this is because of the welcoming atmosphere, thanks to Katherine and her staff, and of course, the homemade American meal its patrons feast on.

Nerd haven, food heaven

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 17/03/2017

» The setting: The Setting Paradise comes with different names for different people: Heaven, Shangri-La, Krispy Kreme, you name it. But for Bangkok's gamers and nerds, it's called Game Over. Equipped with consoles, PCs, and a huge assortment of board games and party games, Game Over has been a cool hangout place for both gamers and noobs alike. Recently, it held a grand reopening and added some perks to its already impressive location. There's an extended "club area" for those who want thumping music to go along with their night as well as a playground area for the younger ones who don't really know their way around a PS4 yet. But the highlight of all these additions could arguably be the fact that they now have a bar and a kitchen that allows them to have a full-blown menu of utter deliciousness.

Let's get high

» Many restaurants aspire to give their patrons an elevated dining experience, and in some cases, this has been taken literally. Bangkok is home to a vast array of rooftop restaurants and bars, some of which are well-known, go-to places for a dinner with a magnificent view of the city's skyline. This week, we have rounded up a number of relatively new rooftop restos for you to check out and enjoy. Protip: don't look down. Seriously.
