» While wandering Bangkok's pavements, Rattachat Phonsaen, founder of design company Pitak Style, often came across discarded items like chairs, tables and vendor carts. Inspired by his passion for handicraft items, Rattachat conceived the idea of repairing these broken objects using traditional basketry methods.

Chaiyan and Maneerat were two of eight finalists selected from 80 applicants for "The Early Years Project #6".

» A strong family bond can be a pillar of strength for individual family members. With solid support from family, two artists -- Theerapong Kamolpus and Ronachart Mahakphichian -- were inspired to turn their inspirations into paintings. At the RCB Portrait Prize 2022, these two unique paintings stood out from a total of 200 entries and 80 finalists. Relationship by Theerapong won the RCB Portrait Prize of 500,000 baht in cash, Time And Care by Ronachart was awarded the Packing Room Prize of 200,000 baht.

» Thailand is a country with cultural diversity. The "Red Area And Black Spirit" art exhibition presents two cultures that reflect the differences between two woodcut artists -- Chayasit Orisoon and Warisara Apisampinwong. While Chayasit showcases Song or Tai Dam culture in his "Black Spirit" room, Warisara exhibits Chinese-Thai culture in her "Red Area". Both Chayasit and Warisara are colleagues who earned a master's in visual arts from Silpakorn University. Since their woodcut pieces involve culture, they decided to hold the exhibition together at the People's Gallery, Bangkok Art & Culture Centre.

» The fifth edition of Bangkok Design Week returns this weekend, serving as a platform for designers, creators, entrepreneurs, producers, artists, public agencies and individuals to explore coexistence with Covid-19; to find a new way of life for the future. Under the "Co With Creation" theme, the design week has a threefold mission. First, to encourage creators' creativity and experimentation to create a new normal lifestyle. Second, to support creative businesses and communities to generate income. And, third, to revitalise creative districts of Charoen Krung-Talad Noi, Sam Yan, Ari-Pradipat, Thonglor-Ekamai and Phra Nakhon through online and offline activities. » Even though Thailand has a good reputation for arts and crafts, its basketry industry has an image of unstylish designs. To encourage the young generation to become interested in arts and crafts, the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (Sacit) and JSL Global Media teamed up to launch a reality competition show titled Sacict War Craft on Amarin TV starting Aug 7. In the show, five teams of young designers compete to create weaving product designs. Vachara Vaewuthinand, who is on the board of directors and a production consultant at JSL Global Media, said creating Sacict War Craft was a challenge.
