Disrobing Ghosts

» Software engineer by profession and photographer by passion, Akkara Naktamna is best known for his street photography. The co-founder of Street Photo Thailand and proud dad has taught himself how to take pictures and was selected a finalist in international competitions such as Miami Street Photography Festival 2013, Singapore Photo Festival 2016 and Photo Bangkok Festival 2015-2018. He also founded e-magazine "CTypeMag" in 2016 to promote interesting photo series from the unknown photographers around the globe. Akkara is having his solo exhibition titled "Demonic" to satire the unsavoury sides of monkhood in Thailand. It runs until Aug 31 at Kathmandu Photo Gallery. We talked to him about his photographic journey and his need to disrobe fake monks.

Purin, who is showcasing his playful interactive arts, talked about his journey as an artist.

» We first interviewed Peerapat "Add" Wimolrungkarat because of his unique job as personal photographer for Abhisit Vejjajiva while he was the 27th prime minister of Thailand many moons ago. Since then Add has gone on to become the photo editor of The Momentum and The Standard news websites and since 2017, has worked as the photographer for Isra Sunthornvut, secretary-general of Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. Recently he was chosen as a finalist in StreetFoto San Francisco 2019 Contest and his works, along with four Bangkok-based photographers, will be exhibited from June 3-9. Also a Leica ambassador since 2016, he is holding the “Sense Of Place” exhibition, which runs until Jun 16 at Leica Gallery Bangkok.

» Bruno Menard, former executive chef at Restaurant L'Osier, Tokyo, which received three Michelin stars under his helm, recently visited Pimalai Resort & Spa, Krabi, to create a sublime four-course dinner, as part of the resort's Gastronomy Journey. This was the second time the world renowned French chef and MasterChef Asia judge created special dinner for Pimalai and this collaboration will become an annual event onwards. We simply couldn't refuse an opportunity to chat with him.

Election Made Easy

» The general election is this Sunday, baby! Aren't you stoked to be able to exercise your right to vote again after a five-year absence (or eight, if you take into consideration that the 2014 general election was deemed invalid by the Constitutional Court). Anywhoo, it can be overwhelming to digest all the information, campaign videos, memes, pictures of hot candidates and fake news that have flooded your Facebook newsfeed lately. Perhaps, it's best to judge our candidates based on their parties' policies and proposals, and Bangkok Poll on Sunday revealed that 97% of respondents in their latest survey will vote on Mar 24 and more than half said party policies will be the first factor when deciding which candidates to vote for.

Creative Technologist

» Since his debut last July with the interactive wall Click Canvas at Yelo House, Natthakit "Kimbab" Kangsadansenanon has gone on to produce The Crown Pavilion, which he co-created with Conscious for Awakening Bangkok 2018 and Pixercise for Bhiraj Tower. The 26-year-old "creative technologist" revealed his latest work at Heineken 2.0 Barcade last weekend. A guest lecturer at several leading universities, Kimbab continues to produce interactive works that are an intersection of creativity, human experience technology and games. We catch up with him to ask about his unique creations and whether he still finds it difficult to explain what he does.

Upcycling Plastic

» Dominic Puwasawat Chakrabongse, 27, is a true environmentalist who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy degree from The London School of Economics. He is a full-time environmental activist and runs the Thai chapter of Precious Plastic in his spare time. Precious Plastic Bangkok (fb.com/PreciousPlasticBKK) is part of a global movement that enables the recycling of plastic with easy-to-build machines. Dominic started Precious Plastic Bangkok about a year ago and has held many workshops on how to "upcycle" used plastics. He tells us why plastic is too precious to be carelessly thrown away.
