A Kick of Sanzo

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 10/03/2017

» Gregory Sanzo, 30, isn't the first foreigner to fall madly in love with our national martial arts to the point of moving here and making a career out of it. But he is a rare interesting one with a lot going on when he sets foot outside the famous Petchyindee Muay Thai Academy where he trains. Before becoming a professional fighter, this Houston native was serious about soccer and music, playing bass in a punk hardcore band under the same label as A Day to Remember, Victory Records. We catch up with the active athlete, musician and entrepreneur to learn about his moves in and out of the ring.

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 23/12/2016

Pink drinks and sunny dishes

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 16/12/2016

» The settingPalm fronds, good music, and a pink neon sign mark this little open-air oasis in Charoen Krung's industrial Soi 28. Little Market is what happens when the creative minds and laid back personalities of Ce La Vie's former executive chef Chet Adkins, photographer Jason Lang and Speedy Grandma's Thomas Menard join forces. What was once a drab single-room stall has been transformed into a colourful diner with a personality ten times the size of its dimensions. There is so much to describe, from the crazy hand-painted walls and the checkerboard floors to the hot pink bar stools, oversized hanging lightbulbs and a really old school pinball "machine" just sitting there in the back. But even with eyes closed, there's the glorious sounds of Bowie and The Beatles pulling you in.

Please label us

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 26/02/2016

» Multi-label retailers have been popular for a long time in progressive urban cultures such as Los Angeles, Melbourne and Tokyo, so where has Bangkok been? Obsessing over high-rise luxury malls housing tonnes and tonnes of single-label shops. But at last, it seems we are evolving, refining our tastes to prefer low-key, even local splendours. » A belated congratulations to the NCPO for achieving 99% satisfaction on a nationwide poll of its performance. Insane, just insane. Suriya’s emporium of wonders

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 30/10/2015

» Frankly, there isn’t much to see in Pattaya. Once lusted-for beaches are now reputed for their tragic shape. Towns seem frozen in renovation or plain deserted, and the major attractions, now decades old, have long lost their lustre and intrigue. That’s why Suriya Music Art, a six-month-old music and antiques appreciation centre in Chon Buri’s Sattahip district, is a sign of hope for Pattaya tourism’s rebirth.
