The month in which the LGBTQ+ community promote and express themselves and celebrate gender diversity and sexual identity. The gay pride movement is celebrated throughout the world ever since the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in Manhattan, New York, a pivotal event that led to creation of the movement for LGBT rights. Prominent figures in the community tell GURU what pride means to them and what are they proud. We've also compiled a few pride celebration events around the city that are worth everyone's attention.

» The trance music scene grew steadily this year, with high-profile festivals such as Phuket's UnKonscious Festival in May and Genesis Festival in July, as well as the Thai debut of Armin van Buuren's trance radio show "A State of Trance" getting onstage at 808 Festival tomorrow. There have been numerous highlights showcasing global international trance artists and DJs for fans to enjoy. Organiser Trance Lovers Thailand have invited high-profile acts to perform in the Big Mango, hosting a series of shows titled "Trance Nights" at Sukhumvit's Insanity Nightclub. Guru chatted with Dutch trance producer Ram Boon, better known by his stage name RAM, to find out his thoughts on the trance scene in Thailand and his future plans.

» In most countries, negativity towards mental health and depression still looms large, casting doubt and uncertainty for those who suffer from the common yet complicated mental illnesses to talk about it. "Crazy" or "insane" are words often used for such people, and because of the shame and stigma attached to mental health, it prevents most from seeking professional help. However, several groups and projects have been established to help gain a better understanding of what such people go through, and to raise awareness. Knowing what to say to someone who is depressed may be difficult, but these groups have provided a platform for those wanting to help and more so for those who need help.

» The Nikki Beach group of hotels and resorts has long been a holiday destination for people looking for fun and relaxation, with locations all over the world, including the USA, France, Spain, Greece, the Caribbean, Monaco, Turkey, Italy and Thailand. In Koh Samui, the high-end beach club has been labelled as "The Sexiest Place On Earth", where Nikki Beach combines music and entertainment with privacy, delectable food and drinks and stunning sunset views of Lipa Noi beach (assuming it doesn't rain). Last month when the resort held a special event, I decided to get a taste of Nikki Beach's celebration of life.

There are various events focusing on different music genres which include house, disco, techno as well as the subgenres within, which there weren't as many a few years back. Western influences have changed the music landscape and conversely, Thai acts have begun to take inspiration from their style to apply on their craft. We chat with six Bangkok-based DJs and acts, artists who are putting in the sweat to expand and gain exposure in the underground music scene.
