Life, Published on 23/01/2024

» DEAR DOCTORS: My husband teases me because I love making New Year's resolutions, but I have trouble keeping them. Some on my list for 2024 -- lose 5kg, start hitting the gym -- have been with me since the 1990s! Any advice on how to do better?

The caffeine connection between coffee and headaches

Life, Published on 07/03/2023

» DEAR DOCTORS: I am 69 years old and have two cups of coffee each morning. Once or twice a week, I wake up with a dull ache at the back of my head, towards the left side. It always goes away with my first cup of coffee. Is this caffeine withdrawal? My doctors have found no physical causes.

Humanity over bureaucracy

Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 22/11/2019

» Do we need a feature film about the Tham Luang Cave rescue? We already know the characters, the set-up, the conflict, the ending: The 12 youngsters and their coach were saved, transported out unconscious from the flooded grottos in Chiang Rai by a team of elite divers, against the odds of natural or man-made calamities. Miracles, as the world acknowledges, have already been performed. Tears have been shed and a tragedy -- the death of a Thai Navy Seal -- has been mourned.

Building the perfect dryer

Life, Published on 03/04/2018

» Hair is made up of dead cells without the ability to self-repair. This means it is in need of protection against heat damage, one of the problems caused by hair dryers blasting hot air on tresses. » That unexpected fire at the Thai-Belgian flyover caused havoc with inner-city traffic on Wednesday. That was the evening of Sundowners, the monthly meeting of Austcham (the Australian Chamber of Commerce) at the Grand Hyatt Erawan. It was also the evening Austcham was having its presidential elections, but how to get there?

For regal palates

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 03/02/2017

» The setting: There's a sacred ruby of a restaurant tucked away in the deep depths of Sukhumvit Soi 13, officially housed within the Radisson Suites but, on approach, it looks grand enough to be a stand-alone. A royal blue awning, pressed with the golden crest of Punjab Grill's internationally recognised lion covers the arched wooden doors. When you step through, a world of class and elegance cascades over you; the interior exudes a warm and contemporary atmosphere that somehow mixes in a "British India" colonial feel; warm wooden floors, red tints, high ceilings, long golden curtains and of course, a Chesterfield sofa form parts of the magnificent whole. You won't feel cooped up in here, that's for sure. There's an open kitchen featuring three authentic copper and clay tandoor ovens.

Oceans of determination

Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 11/04/2016

» Jonas Colting last Wednesday emerged from the blue water and became the first man to have swum around Phuket Island. The Swedish ultraman took eight days, in our scandalous summer heat, to complete the task that hadn't been attempted before, and that took him from the tip of the western coast of the island, going south counter-clockwise past Patong, Karon, the horn of Phrom Thep Cape, Chalong Pier, then turning northward to Lam Hin, Ao Poh, Sarasin Bridge and ending at Mai Khao Beach.
