The Last Supper?

Life, Amitha Amranand, Published on 16/06/2022

» It's no surprise that as Covid restrictions are easing around the world, people are seeking new experiences to pluck themselves from mundanity, and to see, touch, smell and taste things in ways that awaken them. Why sit inside a theatre when you can walk around an art space or a neighbourhood while stories are spoken into your ears? Why only eat in cafes and restaurants when you can do that and watch a scene of a play unfold? Why dine in a restaurant when you can dine in an old airplane and participate in strange, semi-religious rituals?

A Mad look at the classics

Life, Apipar Norapoompipat, Published on 16/05/2018

» Madsaki's artworks are stupid. Stupid of course, in the best cackle-inducing way possible. In his latest solo exhibition "Combination Platter" (situated on the ground floor of Ploenchit's Central Embassy), Leonardo da Vinci's 16th-century masterpiece Salvador Mundi is now a beady-eyed Jesus. And Picasso's US$155 million (4.9 billion baht) Le Rêve -- instead of a tranquil woman napping peacefully on a sofa, she now has giant black button eyes and a dumb smile to match. Honestly, they're even more entertaining to look at than the originals.

From Bangkok To Mandalay and back

Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 11/11/2016

» For the scenery of Myanmar, this is pleasant enough. For a story of love lost and found, not really. From Bangkok To Mandalay, a Thai-Myanmar co-production opening this week after hitting cinemas around Myanmar on Nov 4, is a tired road-movie romance that switches between two periods in the present and the 1960s. Like most romantic stories, this one exists in a bubble and whether you'll be lulled into its cross-country voyage with four attractive leads of both nationalities depends on how much you enjoy drifting in this 120-minute bubble.
