» Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin turns 101 this year. It first opened in 1923, during the reign of King Rama VI, when it was The Railway Hotel, Hua Hin, and was one of the first beach resorts in Thailand.

» On Monday, the Royal Thai Navy defended its controversial purchase of two Chinese submarines at a humungous price tag of B22.5 billion (that's 11-digits, if you're wondering). The purchase incited online backlash for its inopportune timing, given the severe impact of Covid-19 on the economy. Not to mention, speculation of good ole corruption synonymous with a procurement project.

» If there's such a thing as a resort growing old gracefully then Centara Grand Beach Resorts & Villas Hua Hin is a fine example of one. This hotel has done an excellent job in conserving its legacy while expanding over the 90-plus years of its history. Originally operated by the State Railway of Thailand and known as the Railway Hotel back in 1923, the hotel has undergone a few name changes and the construction of new wings while managing to keep its colonial aesthetic intact.

» Ademonstration against a controversial dam project in Mae Wong National Park will start at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre tomorrow. The dam plan has been criticised for its lack of transparency, questionable effi ciency in preventing future fl ooding and its threat to irreplaceable trees and wildlife. To deputy PM Plodprasob Suraswadi, forests can be regrown and wildlife bred, but an online petition against the project on Change.org has garnered over 113,401 signatures, becoming the biggest campaign of its kind in Asia (who knew that Thais are such environmentalists?!).
