» 1It's a good start to the new year for music lovers as English indie pop band The XX will make their debut in Bangkok on Jan 29 at ThunderDome Muang Thong Thani. The London-based pop trio -- Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith are known for their minimal and hypnotic sound, drawing in huge raves from critics with their first album XX (2009) and later on Coexist (2012). After four years, the band just released their latest album I See You in early 2017. Prepare to be hypnotised by their biggest hits like Intro, Crystalised and Say Something Loving. » 1. See through the eyes of royalty -- Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is back with her annual solo photography exhibition, Poetry Of Light, at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. Exhibiting her photographs taken from 2016-2017, visitors can get a rare glimpse of the Princess' line of work, tongue-in-cheek humour, and even shots from this year's royal funeral preparations. » 1. Bangkok CityCity Gallery has a new exhibition launching tomorrow and on display until Jan 21. Museum Of Kirati, a solo exhibition by Thai artist Chulayarnnon Siriphol, reinterprets the classic Thai novel Behind The Painting (1937) by Sri Burapha (the pen name of Kulap Saipradit). The multidisciplinary show which consists of moving images, watercolour paintings and sculptures acts as a museum of remembrance to Mom Ratchawong Kirati, the protagonist in the novel. Artist Chulayarnnon portrays himself as both Kirati and her lover Nopphon, and reinterprets their tragic love story. For more information go to facebook.com/bangkokcitycity.

As part of the Bangkok Design Festival at ChangChui, contemporary dancer Lordfai Navinda Pachimsawat and a few collaborators will be performing Human at the newly launched creative artspace in Thon Buri. Performing at the abandoned aeroplane site, Human explores the progression of time, physical and mental development, origin and destination, and how people experiment with different experiences in a lifetime. Admission is free and will take place on 8pm today and at 7pm tomorrow.

» 1. Those who frequent Siam Paragon may have seen the new and enticing smoothie booth on the ground floor. Jamba Juice, the Californian smoothie chain that claims to be "the world leader in made-to-order smoothies and freshly squeezed juices" has made it to Bangkok. The first of its 30 planned stores in Thailand, Jamba Juice offers a similar smoothie menu to the original chains in the US, including special smoothies with local ingredients like mango, watermelon and pineapple. Classic smoothies like Strawberry Dream (strawberry and banana) and Banana Berry (banana, blueberry, apple and strawberry) costs 110 baht, while protein and fibre filled shakes like Green Getaway (spinach,mango, passion fruit, chia seed, yoghurt) costs 130 baht.

» 1. Gone are the days where we had to buy bulky and expensive photo-gear to take stunning pictures. With the right lighting, composition and techniques, mobile phones can now do the trick. Thus, as part of Polish Arts and Culture Week, the Centre for European Studies of Chulalongkorn University is hosting a presentation and workshop on mobile photography by Grupa Mobilni -- a mobile-photography group from Poland. The event will feature a presentation and workshop by Kamil Kawczyński, a moderator and member of Grupa Mobilni, and a presentation on an ongoing contest, "What Would Conrad Say?". The event is free and takes place on April 26 at 3pm in Room 801 of Chulalongkorn's Chaloem Rajakumari 60 Building.
