Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 07/04/2017

» The setting: Arroz is situated in a dainty house on the lower end of the leafy street of Soi 53. A quiet residential area that's been asking for an eatery that serves up something other than pizza and sushi.

The spaces between us

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 07/04/2017

» No doubt, Bangkok has its fair share of issues that hover over the urban landscape. From developers chasing out communities to make way for even more condominiums to the lack of greenery -- and don't get us started on the state of footpaths and the Jackson Pollock-inspired electrical wires we have proudly exhibiting all around town -- there's clearly a lot for our eyes to take in.

For fusion's sake

» The setting: There are two types of sushi restaurants in Bangkok. Ones where they serve up omakase in a setting so fancy you're probably too scared to let a cough slip out; then the casual ones where you can pretty much rock up in flip-flops ordering salmon rolls stuffed with goose liver, with no one blinking twice. Yuzuki is all about the latter.

Peace of prim

» If you've ever found yourself around Thong Lor with time to spare -- whether it's waiting for that forever-late friend or in the rare instance when you find yourself being unfashionably early -- aside from drinking or eating your way round, there's really not much to do. Sukhumvit may be laden with spas, but the Golden Soi certainly could do with a few more -- especially ones that aren't going to tear your wallet apart. You know, not everyone who wants to get pampered needs to be dipped in a gold bath and get charged their monthly salary for it.

Let's get Baked

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 03/02/2017

» Open the doors to this dainty bakery and cafe on Soi 33 and you'll be immediately greeted by the smell of baked goodies and a very welcoming reception from co-owners Ning and Tong. These two affable ladies have taken over the spot that used to be 'Fat Beagle' -- which was also a bakery -- and decked it out in a homey yet modern style that's seriously inviting. If you ever find yourself in the area, it's a real must to drop in for a slice of cake.

Function, form and a fab bod

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 13/01/2017

» If you're in need of that extra push to get in shape this year, look no further than F45, a brand new functional training studio tucked inside Novotel Bangkok Hotel on Soi 20. We tried out three of their classes, survived and now can confidently tell you that you'll be tired AF and sweating out from every single one of your pores (even if you're a regular gym-goer).

Crack-Attack

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 06/01/2017

» One of life's greatest disappointments is biting into a soggy waffle -- that, and also putting a chocolate chip cookie in your mouth and then realising two seconds later that those little black chocolate chunks are actually raisins. Damn you, dream-crushers!

Guac me, baby, One more time

» The setting: They say tacos come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. And whether they're served on a plastic plate from a greasy food truck or topped off with some hipster twist at a fancy brick-and-mortar counterpart, tacos (and maybe, Mexican food in general) are man's greatest creation when it comes to types of food that go dangerously well with any alcoholic beverage.
