Marriage at any price

B Magazine, Andrew Biggs, Published on 29/07/2018

» My heart goes out to the jilted bride who made the news this week, left standing in her wedding dress in front of a crowd of well-wishers, having to explain that her future significant other had chosen insignificance.

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 26/07/2018

» I love Thailand. The more I travel, the more I realise how lucky I am to have been born and raised in this country. But when it comes to durian, it's a different story.

Call me by her name

Life, Melalin Mahavongtrakul, Published on 13/07/2018

» While the interest and market for gay-themed stories continue to grow -- on online channels, on television series and in cinemas -- the sub-genre of lesbian movies has still got some catching up to do, especially in Thailand. Once in a blue moon, a lesbian film would drop on our cinema or TV screens, and the ones that had an actual cultural impact can be counted on one hand. At last week's LGBT Film Festival, which saw an enthusiastic turnout, there was then just one lesbian film among a dozen gay-themed international titles. All of this seems to signify that truly fair representation of gender and sexuality in the media still has quite a way to go.

Life, Published on 15/06/2018

» Keiko, a defiantly oddball 36-year-old woman, has worked in a dead-end job as a convenience store cashier in Tokyo for half her life. She lives alone and has never been in a romantic relationship, or even had sex. And she is perfectly happy with all of it.

Island fashion

Life, Published on 25/05/2018

» Transporting guests to the Balearic Islands, the launch of Loewe Paula's Ibiza II collection was hosted by Olarn Puipunthavong and Suwadee Puengbunpra, executives of PP Group -- the distributor of the Spanish label in Thailand. The ready-to-wear and accessories boast prints taken from archives of Paula's boutique, which opened in Ibiza in the 1970s. Scarf, swim shorts, bags and slingback sandals, for instance, feature a summery aqua-blue print with mermaids surrounded by marine flora. As if they were by the sea, guests took selfies with colourful Kisbee rings at the Loewe pop-up space, which will remain at Siam Paragon's Hall of Mirror, until the end of June.

Exploring lesser travelled paths

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/05/2018

» Ray MacDonald is a Thai-Scottish actor/model/TV host who first came into the public's radar as the eccentric co-host of Teen Talk on Channel 5 back in the 90s (sorry, if this reference makes you feel old). He went on to star in many films, commercials and appear on magazine covers. But lately, it seems he has been bitten by the travel bug and can't get over it, resulting in travel shows with unique spins that he has produced and hosted. Food Tribe on LINE TV (three new episodes from Wednesdays to Fridays), his latest effort, yet again showcases his passion for exploring the paths less travelled. He visited tribe people in different parts of the world and went super local, and by that, we mean he lived, hunted and ate with them. Though Food Tribe is half way through, we think you will miss out on something if you don't give it a look. If that doesn't make you want to watch, we spoke to Ray, too.

» The news about the burgeoning fake cosmetics industry -- and the celebrities risking arrest for being presenters -- reminds me of an incident last year in my own office.
