Small, old and fairly nondescript, it is nevertheless guarded around the clock and equipped with a security system. This is because its upper floor is a restricted zone where the first lot of 140 cannabis plants will be grown for R&D and medical purposes.

» Visitors stand in long queues at the Sadao immigration checkpoint in Songkhla, one of Thailand's first five Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Thanks to the good condition of roads and convenient public transportation, it's easy for people to travel by land between Thailand and Malaysia. Visitors from Thailand can continue their journey further south to Langkawi, Penang (see the box), Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, and even to Singapore. On the other hand, there are often car rallies from Malaysia travelling to the northernmost province of Thailand, then across to Laos and China.
