Victim handcuffed before nasty attack

» A Thai man screamed for assistance after he was handcuffed and muffled with a t-shirt over his head before being bundled into a car where he was robbed of jewelry worth 5,000 baht. Worapol Mayer, 32, said he was drinking with friends when several strangers approached and kidnapped him; his drinking companions had not lifted a finger to help him. The victim had to make his own way home after being dumped on Sukhumvit Road. He added that he had worked as a photographer for many years and had no enemies.
Brit falls from nightclub window

» Police are still investigating how a 25-year-old British tourist, Stephen Paul Truscott, came to end up on the concrete road after apparently falling from an upper-floor window of a nightclub in Walking Street. He had various broken bones, including a badly damaged hip, and was rushed to Memorial Hospital. It is assumed at present that Truscott fell accidentally after a heavy drinking bout.

Drunken Russian breaks baht bus windscreen

» Unable to name his destination, a Russian tourist flared up and broke the windshield of a baht bus. The driver, Surachai, said the Russian flagged down the songthaew on Second Road, and climbed in back. After riding for about a kilometer, Surachai stopped and asked where the passenger was going. The tourist appeared drunk and became angry enough to slam his elbow into the windscreen. When police arrived at the scene they were unable to communicate with the Russian. The Russian was taken to the police station, then left and went to sleep outside the Montien Hotel. He will be rearrested when the booze wears off and a translator is available.

Proposed solutions ranged from posting more and clearer road signs and increasing the level of public transportation to improving rubbish collections from public areas. Motorbike taxi driver killed in accident

» A 27-year-old taxi man, Somchai Nokpueak, was killed when his motorbike collided with a car at the junction of Third Road and Soi Lenkee. The driver of the car, Warawat Phosajunt, said he was en route to a local hospital with an 80-year-old woman when the motorbike appeared at high speed and attempted to overtake her car resulting in an unavoidable accident.
Chips down in a poker game

» Police raided a house on Pratumnak Road where several men and women were playing poker for high-stakes. Police seized the poker table, playing cards, poker chips and, of course, piles of cash–reportedly about 300,000 baht. Officers also discovered an account book revealing that the illegal gambling had been going on for several months. American Matthew Mortensen was said to be one of the organizers, whilst two Cambodians in the den were assistants earning around 2,000 baht a time. Seven people were taken into custody; others managed to escape through side exits and windows.
